Alain Macklovitch (born March 30th, 1982), known by his stage name A-Trak, is a Canadian DJ, turntablist, record producer, and record label executive. He came to prominence in the late 2000s as an international club DJ and remix artist, known for incorporating highly technical turntable skills and scratching into his genre-spanning work. He is also President of the record label Fool's Gold, which was founded in 2007 and is credited for developing the careers of artists such as Kid Cudi, Danny Brown, and Flosstradamus. Among other collaborative projects, he is part of the DJ duo Duck Sauce with Armand Van Helden and was nominated for a Grammy in 2012 for their song "Barbra Streisand". A-Trak's professional career has spanned over two decades and is built off his early success as a World Champion turntablist as well as Kanye West's original tour DJ. He was named one of the 50 Most Important People in EDM by Rolling Stone and has been called the Global Ambassador of DJ Culture, appearing on the covers of  Billboard and Complex magazines.

A-Trak rapidly rose to prominence when he won the DMC World DJ Championship in 1997 at the age of 15, making him the youngest and first Canadian winner of the competition. A-Trak, who had been involved in the Montreal turntable and hip hop scene for a year or so at this point, was hailed by the international community as a highly technical and accomplished turntablist during the height of the scratch DJing in the 1990s. Between 1997 and 2000, he competed as a DJ internationally. A-Trak was the first DJ to win all three major DJ competition titles (DMC,ITF and Vestax), as well as the first DJ to win five World Championships. While he retired from competition in 2000, he continued to showcase his turntable skills in important DJ forums. A-Trak played the first Coachella Music Festival in 1999.

2016 DMC World Championships - This weekend will see some of the world’s best DJs descend on London for the DMC World Championships. It all kicked off in 1985 when Tony Prince of the Disco Mix Club decided to put together a competition to allow the best DJs to show off their best mixes. However, it wasn’t until the following year when USA’s DJ Cheese decided to add scratching to his mix, that the current version of the DMC’s was born – although much to the distaste of Cheese’s opponent that year. Historically the US has dominated the competition thanks to 13 World DJ Championship titles, with the UK and France almost on a par with each other with five and four victories respectively. Germany, Canada, Japan and Denmark are the only other countries to win titles, but DJs from all over the world compete every year, so there really is the opportunity for anyone to scoop that coveted top prize.

Also in 1997, A-Trak and his brother Dave, along with creative director Willo Perron, founded the Montreal-based record label Audio Research. Audio Research released a series of turntable and hip hop records and compilations, mostly as 12" records. The label was officially dissolved in 2011. In the late 1990s A-Trak developed a notation system for scratching. He gave a lecture about it at the Skratchcon 2000 conference and published an article in Tablist Magazine.

In 1995, A-Trak, with brother Dave 1 and hip hop artists Troy Dunnit, Eclipse, and Logik, formed the hip hop crew Obscure Disorder as an after-school project. The group was part of the Montreal underground hip hop scene in that late 1990s and began releasing their music through Audio Research Records in 1997. The group released a series of singles until they split up in 2002. A-Trak was an honorary member of the pioneering, and now defunct, DJ crew Invisibl Skratch Piklz. He was also a member of the DJ crew The Allies alongside frequent collaborator DJ Craze, as we;; as DVLP, Infamous, Spictakular, and J-Smoke; they released an album D-Day in 2000. The crew performed as a competitive turntable team from around 1998 until 2000. After leaving the competitive DJ scene, A-Trak was interested in DJing for touring artists. A-Trak deejayed at clubs and festivals and released DJ mixes. In Spring 2006, A-Trak embarked on his first headline tour, titled the Sunglasses Is A Must Tour. It was also around this time that A-Trak began more seriously producing music.

In 2004, Kanye West recruited A-Trak as his tour DJ. They first met earlier that year when A-Trak was playing a show at a tiny record shop in London where Kanye West came to support John Legend who was also playing in the same show. For the following three years, A-Trak worked closely with West, including at performances alongside the rapper at MTV specials, the Grammy Awards, multiple MTV Video Music Awards, and worldwide stadium shows; this included West's first two headlining tours which ran almost continuously from March 2004 until April 2006. A-Trak also recorded scratches on West's second and third studio albums Late Registration (2005) and Graduation (2007) and was an influence on the overall sound of the latter. A-Trak's most notable Kanye West credit is for the scratches on the 2005 single "Gold Digger". Near the end of 2007, A-Trak split with Kanye West to pursue the founding of his record label.

After leaving behind his more backstage role as a touring turntablist, A-Trak would become one of the poster boys of the electronic dance music boom of the late 2000s/early 2010s, both due to his original music and highly popular remixes, as well as his keen curation sense and prowess as a music executive of his successful label. Since 2010, he has been a fixture on the international EDM music festival circuit and has noted that he is one of the few popular DJs who uses turntables and scratching in his live sets. In 2012, A-Trak was featured on the cover of Billboard Magazine alongside Diplo and Skrillex, during this period he also appeared on the covers of other magazines including URB (twice), BPM, and Status.

Tegan and Sara

Propelled by the conviction of reinvention, Tegan and Sara’s 8th studio album, Love You To Death, is the latest sonic chapter in a celebrated 17-year career. Produced by Greg Kurstin (Adele, Sia, Beck, Ellie Goulding), Love You To Death delivers 10 new Tegan and Sara tracks more vibrant and visionary than ever.

Tegan and Sara explored a transcendent pop sheen for the first time on 2013’s Heartthrob, which deftly balanced critical acclaim with mainstream ambitions. They follow it up here with an equally explosive production, but one that casts darker shadows and lingers longer in the psyche. Taking a page from dramatic non-fiction, Love You To Death finds Tegan and Sara mining their own lives to investigate complex relationship dynamics. At one moment the subject is their own inescapable relationship as twin sisters (100x, White Knuckles), while at another it’s a romantic relationship that drives the protagonist to mournful regret (“That Girl”). Secret relationships (“Boyfriend”) give way to social judgment about passion and transience (“Faint of Heart”). Marriage is eloquently questioned as a barometer for commitment (“BWU”), while commitment itself is questioned with a deliberately self-conscious anti-love-song (“U-turn”). With each album their writing grows in precision and vulnerability, and differing lyrical voices continue to sharpen their respective identities – Tegan’s unapologetically clear word choice in evaluating romance (“Stop Desire”) is balanced by Sara’s poetic reflections on anxiety (“Hang on to the Night”).

Even as they’ve been embraced by the mainstream, Tegan and Sara consciously operate to the left of popular culture – their lyrical and social wisdom comes from an outside vantage looking in. Paradoxically, the essential message that underpins their worldview and identity is inclusion. So it is only fitting that these two self-described outsiders have ultimately found acceptance from such a diverse amalgamation of cultural forces. This is a band that can perform comfortably alongside Katy Perry or Neil Young, Taylor Swift or The Killers. You may have seen them in the dusty desert at Coachella or on the pristine stage at the Academy Awards. Few other contemporary artists can cross boundaries of genre and culture so effortlessly.

Twin sisters born in Calgary, Alberta and now residing in Vancouver, BC, Tegan and Sara’s career numbers are impressive – over 1 million albums sold, 7 Gold certifications, 1 Double Platinum certification, 3 Juno Awards, 2 Polaris Prize nominations, and a Grammy nomination. But even more impressive is the conviction that has driven Tegan and Sara’s relentless evolution as artists. Transitioning from acoustic roots to indie rock royalty in the mid 2000s, with widely-acclaimed albums So Jealous (2004) and The Con (2007), they began the path of reinvention that continues to inform their creative identity today.

If the highest intention of the artist is to self-actualize, Tegan and Sara have given their devoted audience the gift of a front-row seat to their lifelong process of evolution. Love You To Death, featuring the first single “Boyfriend,” will be released on Warner Bros. Records on June 3, 2016.

"Fight For You"
(feat. Elisabeth Maurus)

Meeting you here, the night’s alight with midnight cheer
Our dust still unsettled, I feel the plucking of our petals
I’m drawing circles don’t you know, protect the seed that wants to grow
To a garden, pardon my territory

I’d fight for you
I never knew that I could feel this way
I’m right for you
This kinda love don’t happen everyday

Be friendly but cautious, you’re gonna have to count your losses
Easily attracted, but dangerous to get distracted
I’m drawing circles don’t you know, protect the seed that wants to grow
To a garden, pardon my territory

I’d fight for you
I never knew that I could feel this way
I’m right for you
This kinda love don’t happen everyday

I’d fight for you
I didn’t wanna have to raise my voice
I’m right for you
You really leave me with no choice

So what do you want and what are you thinking?
Isn’t it about time you stuck up for me?
But what you can’t see is we’re under siege
And I only fight because I believe
Not gonna share you no

I’d fight for you
I never knew that I could feel this way
I’m right for you
This kinda love don’t happen everyday

I’d fight for you
I didn’t wanna have to raise my voice
I’m right for you
You really leave me with no choice

I’d fight for you
I didn’t wanna have to raise my voice
I’m right for you
You really leave me with no choice

I’d fight for you
I’m right for you

Her debut album, Catching a Tiger, was released in June 2010. Her second studio album, Back to Forever, was released in October 2013. Her first record as an independent artist, and third studio album, My Wild West, was released February 12, 2016 and went on to receive critical acclaim. Her father is a physician and her mother, who is of Swedish ancestry, is an interior designer. She was interested in singing and music from an early age. She played the title role of the musical Annie at the age of nine. "In high school it seems like everyone has more drama than any other time in their life. So that was the time in my life where I really leaned on music as a way to stay sane," she said in an interview.

AR-190219835.jpg

In her senior year of high school, she was expelled over what she described as "something stupid that I did, but it was sort of like the culmination of just a lot of negative things that had happened". She got her diploma at an alternative outreach center. She spent two years at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, during which time she would open for musicians who visited the city. She collaborated with DJ Harry of SCI Fidelity Records on the song "All My Life", which was featured on television shows House, The O.C., Veronica Mars and Wildfire. After spending a semester in Paris, she finished her studies to pursue a career in music. In 2007, she produced a four-song EP that received some airplay on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic.

In early 2008, Lenny Kravitz invited her to be the opening act for his Love Revolution Tour, after a friend tipped him about her MySpace page. Later that year, "The Longest Road", a song she co-wrote with DJ Morgan Page reached No.4 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Songs chart. "We met under that idea that he was going to remix a song of mine ... But we decided to work on a new song together", she told the Quad-City Times. The Deadmau5 remix of the track was nominated for a Grammy in the "Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical" category.

On my plane to manila
Passengers sit row to row
The flight staff served the curry chicken!
And then I heard the turbine go
Yeah...

Out of my window was the sunset,
On the wing a funny glow,
Then my seat started rattling,
Assured that wasn't part of the show,

So I started to dance,
Without wearing no seat belt
So I started to dance,
Without wearing no life vest,
I started to dance..

My plane noise went down,
I heard the pilot talk regrets,
But the people didn't panic,
They just all, stared at me,

And they started to dance,
Without wearing no seat belts,
We all started to dance,
Without wearing no life vest,
We all started to dance,

It was quiet a ride.

So I started to dance,
Without wearing no seat belts
So I started to dance,
Without wearing no life vest,
I started to dance...

"Goodbye, Goodbye"

Goodbye
I don't wanna
Feel the need
To hear your voice

Goodbye
I don't wanna
Feel the need
To see your face

I can't live with
All these things I would say
I can't live with
All these things that I'd say

Goodbye, goodbye
Goodbye, goodbye
Like the first time

Goodbye, goodbye
Goodbye, goodbye
Like the first time

You never really knew me
Never ever, never ever saw me
Saw me like they did

You never really loved me
Never really, never really loved me
Loved me like they did

With some time
I might wanna
See the way
That you've changed

With some time
I might wanna
See how you fared
What you can't replace

I can't stand it
All these things I've let go
I can't stand it
All these things I've let go

Goodbye, goodbye
Goodbye, goodbye
Like the first time

Goodbye, goodbye
Goodbye, goodbye
Like the first time

You never really knew me
Never ever, never ever saw me
Saw me like they did

You never really loved me
Never really, never really loved me
Loved me like they did

You coulda told me
Goodbye
You coulda told me
Goodbye

You let me try
Knowing there was nothing I could do
To change you

You coulda warned me
Knowing there was nothing I could do
To change you

You never really knew me
Never ever, never ever saw me
Saw me like they did

You never really loved me
Never really, never really loved me
Loved me like they did

Goodbye, goodbye
Goodbye, goodbye
Like the first time

Goodbye, goodbye
Goodbye, goodbye
Like the first time

You never really knew me
Never ever, never ever saw me
Saw me like they did

You never really loved me
Never really, never really loved me
Loved me like they did

Tegan and Sara Quin began playing guitar and writing songs at age 15. They initially played as Plunk without a drummer or bass player. In 1997, they used their school’s recording studio to record two demo albums: Who's in Your Band? and Play Day. In 1998, they won Calgary's Garage Warz competition, using the studio time they won to record their first professional demo, Yellow tape, which was followed by Orange tape and Red tape. Two songs from Red tape appeared on their first album, Under Feet Like Ours, which they released independently in 1999 under the name "Sara and Tegan". They later changed their name to "Tegan and Sara" because it was easier to pronounce and reprinted the album using that name. They also wanted their name to stand out amongst the other 'Sara' musicians at the time such as Sarah McLachlan and Sarah Slean. Tegan was easier to remember. Neil Young's manager signed them to Young's Vapor Records label, and they released This Business of Art through Vapor in 2000.

They have toured extensively since then. In 2002, the band released their third album If It Was You. Their fourth album, So Jealous, was released in 2004 and led to wider success. This album was released through both Vapor and Sanctuary. One track on the album, "Walking with a Ghost", was covered by The White Stripes, who released it on their Walking with a Ghost EP.&nbsp Their 2007 album, The Con, was released by Vapor and Sire because Sanctuary chose to no longer release new music in the United States. The album was co-produced by Chris Walla. Jason McGerr of Death Cab for Cutie, Matt Sharp of The Rentals and previously Weezer, Hunter Burgan of AFI, and Kaki King all appear on the album.&nbsp On October 27, 2009, Tegan and Sara released their sixth album Sainthood, produced by Chris Walla and Howard Redekopp, as well as a three-volume book set titled ON, IN, AT, which is a collection of stories, essays, journals, and photos of the band on tour in America in the fall of 2008, writing together in New Orleans, and touring Australia. The photographs in the book are by Lindsey Byrnes and Ryan Russell. While recording Sainthood, Tegan and Sara spent a week writing songs together in New Orleans. The song "Paperback Head" appeared on the album, making it the first song on any Tegan and Sara album that they wrote together. Spin magazine gave Sainthood four out of five stars and wrote, "Tegan and Sara's music may no longer be the stuff of teens, but its strength remains in how much it feels like two people talking."&nbsp In 2011, they launched 2011: A Merch Odyssey, which sees the launch of at least one new item in the official online stores every month, all year long. A live CD/DVD combination package titled Get Along was released on November 15 and contains three films titled 'States', 'India' and 'For The Most Part'.

Tegan and Sara started recording their seventh studio album on February 20, 2012. Six songs were produced by Greg Kurstin. Joey Waronker contributed drums to these six songs. Four more songs were produced by Mike Elizondo, with Victor Indrizzo contributing drums, Josh Lopez contributing guitar and Dave Palmer contributing piano/keyboards. The last three songs were produced by Justin Meldal-Johnson. The band confirmed on Twitter that the record is finished and has been mixed. It is due out in early 2013 after finishing their tour with the Black Keys.

"I Was A Fool"

Do you remember I searched you out
How I climbed your city's walls?
Do you remember me as devout
How I prayed for your calls?

I stood still, it's what I did
Love like ours is never fixed

I stuck around
I did behave
I saved you every time
I was a fool for love
I was a fool for love
I was a fool
I was a fool

Then you blamed me and blocked me out
How long did you think I'd last?
Then you disappeared for weeks to pout
How many times could I pack?

But stand still is all I did
Love like ours is never fixed

Still I stuck around
I did behave
I saved you every time
I was a fool for love
I was a fool for love
I was a fool
I was a fool

If you're worried that I might've changed
Left behind all of my foolish ways
You best be looking for somebody else
Without a foolish heart, a foolish heart

But stand still is all we did
Love like ours is never fixed

I stuck around
I did behave
I saved you every time
I was a fool for love
I was a fool for love
I was a fool
I was a fool
I was a fool
I was a fool
I was a fool

"Hold My Breath Until I Die"

Late at night, when your words are eating me alive
Does it make you sad to leave me here like that?
In my dreams, the blood runs from my eyes
If I fall, will you catch me in your arms?
(Catch me in your arms)

When you asked me who, I should have said it's you
Now it seems like it will never be, we'll never be

Oh, if I hold my breath until I die, I'll be alright
Oh, if I hold my breath until I die, I'll be alright
Oh, if I (If I) hold my breath (Hold my)
Until I die (Breath, I), I'll be alright
Oh, if I (If I) hold my breath (Hold my)
Until I die (Breath, I), I'll be alright

Shame on me 'cause I can't help fallin' at your feet
It makes me mad to see you leave like that
I'm so lost, running circles in my head
If I jump, will you catch me in your arms? (Catch me in your arms)

When you asked me who, I should have said it's you
Now it seems like it will never be, we'll never be

Oh, if I hold my breath until I die, I'll be alright
Oh, if I hold my breath until I die, I'll be alright
Oh, if I (If I) hold my breath (Hold my)
Until I die (Breath, I), I'll be alright
Oh, if I (If I) hold my breath (Hold my)
Until I die (Breath, I), I'll be alright

I said I'm sorry (I'm sorry)
Does it bother you? (Bother you)
Why does it bother you? (Bother you)
I said I'm sorry (I'm sorry)
Does it bother you? (Bother you)
Why does it bother you? (Bother you)

Oh, if I (If I) hold my breath (Hold my)
Until I die (Breath, I), I'll be alright

I said I'm sorry
Does it bother you?
Why does it bother you?
I said I'm sorry
Does it bother you?
Why does it bother you?
