Take a look at me
Wired to a machine
Never would believe it
This can't be happening

Boxes that go beep
Little lights that leap
Tapping on a keyboard
What's happening to me?

And when the electricity
Starts to flow
The fuse that's on my sanity
Got to blow

System addict
I never can get enough
System addict
Never can give it up

Beauty or a beast
Don't know which I see
Still I couldn't leave it
Fascination won't cease

You know it's got the best of me
Sight and sound
Untangled in complexity
All around

System addict
I never can get enough
System addict
Never can give it up, no

System addict
You got the heart, we have it

And when it gets to be too much
Can't go on
I really need the human touch
But I'm too far gone
Yes, I'm too far gone
No I can't go on

System addict
I never can get enough
System addict
Never can give it up

System addict
I never can get enough
System addict
Never can give it up

System addict
I never can get enough
System addict
Never can give it up

System addict
I never can get enough
System addict
Never can give it up

Get out my life why don't cha babe
'Cause you don't really love me
You just keep me hangin' on

Set me free why don't cha babe
Get out my life why don't cha babe (ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
'Cause you don't really need me
But you keep me hangin' on

Why do you keep a comin' around playing with my heart?
Why don't cha get out of my life and let me make a brand new start?
Let me get over you the way you gotten over me, yeah, yeah

Set me free why don't cha babe
Get out my life why don't cha babe (ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
'Cause you don't really love me
You just keep me hangin' on
No, you don't really need me
You just keep me hangin' on

You say although we broke up you still just wanna be friends
But how can we still be friends when seeing you only breaks my heart again
(And there ain't nothing I can do about it)

Whoa, ooh, whoa, ooh, whoa
Whoa, ooh, whoa, ooh, whoa, whoa
Whoa, ooh, whoa, ooh, whoa, whoa
Whoa, ooh, whoa, ooh, whoa,
Yeah, yeah

Get out, get out of my life
And let me sleep at night
'Cause you don't really love me
You just keep me hangin' on

You say you still care for me but your heart and soul needs to be free
And now that you've got your freedom you wanna still hold on to me
You don't want me for yourself so let me find somebody else

Set me free why don't cha babe
Get out my life why don't cha babe (ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
'Cause you don't really love me
You just keep me hangin' on

Why don't cha be a man about it and set me free (ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
Now you don't care a thing about me
You're just using me, hey, abusing me

Get out, get out of my life
And let me sleep at night (ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
'Cause you don't really love me
You just keep me hangin' on (ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)

Billy Idol - Eyes Without A Face (Official Music Video)

I'm all out of hope
One more bad break
Could bring a fall

When I'm far from home
Don't call me on the phone
To tell me you're alone

It's easy to deceive
It's easy to tease
But hard to get release

Eyes without a face
(Les yeux sans visage)
Eyes without a face
(Les yeux sans visage)
Eyes without a face
Got no human grace
You're eyes without a face

I spend so much time
Believing all the lies
To keep the dream alive

Now it makes me sad
It makes me mad at truth
For loving what was you

Eyes without a face
(Les yeux sans visage)
Eyes without a face
(Les yeux sans visage)
Eyes without a face
Got no human grace
You're eyes without a face (face, face, face)

When you hear the music, you make a dip
Into someone else's pocket then make a slip
You teal a car and go to Las Vegas
Ooh, gigolo cool

Hanging out by the state line
Turning holy water into wine
Drinkin' it down, oh, oh-oh, ow

I'm on a bus on a psychedelic trip
Reading murder books, tryin' to stay hip
I'm thinkin' of you, you're out there, so
Say your prayers
Say your prayers
Say your prayers (oh)

Now I close my eyes
And I wonder why
I don't despise

Now all I can do
Love what was once
So alive in you
But it's gone from your eyes
I better realize

Eyes without a face
(Les yeux sans visage)
Eyes without a face
(Les yeux sans visage)
Eyes without a face
Got no human grace
You're eyes without a face

Such a human waste
You're eyes without a face (face, face, face)

And now it's getting worse

Billy Idol is a punk rock musician who rose to fame as a member of the band Generation X. Born as William Michael Albert Broad, he adopted the name Billy Idol when he embarked on a musical career. He was a bright teenager though he was not really academically inclined. His teacher had once called him “idle” and as a joke, he started calling himself “Idol”! His parents wanted him to go to college and he enrolled at the Sussex University to pursue a degree in English. However he found studies to be extremely boring and dropped out within a year to join the Bromley Contingent of Sex Pistols fans. At the initial stages of his musical career he played the guitar for the band Chelsea. Along with a band mate Tony James he co-founded Generation X and he made a switch from being the guitarist to become the lead singer. The team went on to release three successful albums and was one of the first punk bands to be featured on the BBC Television music programme ‘Top of the Pops’. He built up a “bad boy” image which was well loved by the fans of rock music when he embarked on a solo career post the disbanding of Generation X. His album ‘Rebel Yell’ is his biggest success so far. The album peaked at No.6 on the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart and had the highly popular singles ‘Rebel Yell’, ‘Eyes Without a Face’, and ‘Flesh for Fantasy’. The album went multi platinum in Canada and the U.S.

He won the MTV Video Music Awards for Best Video from a Film for the video ‘Cradle of Love’ in 1990.

He also won the BRIT Award for Best British Video for the same video in 1991.

Cryin' on the corner, waitin' in the rain
I swear I'll never, ever wait again
You gave me your word but words for you are lies

Darlin' in my wildest dreams, I never thought I'd go
But it's time to let you know, oh

I'm gonna harden my heart
I'm gonna swallow my tears
I'm gonna turn and leave you here

All of my life I've been waitin' in the rain
I've been waiting for a feeling that never, ever came
It feels so close, but always disappears

Darlin', in your wildest dreams, you never had a clue
But it's time you got the news

I'm gonna harden my heart
I'm gonna swallow my tears
I'm gonna turn and leave you here

I'm gonna harden my heart
I'm gonna swallow my tears
I'm gonna harden my heart
I'm gonna swallow my tears
Harden my heart, harden my heart
swallow my tears
I'm gonna harden my heart

Quarterflash (previously stylized as QuarterFlash) is an American rock group formed in 1980 in Portland, Oregon. The band was originally made up of the two current members, Orinda Sue "Rindy" Ross (lead vocals and saxophone) and her husband Marv Ross (guitars), along with Jack Charles (guitars), Rick DiGiallonardo (keyboards/synthesizers), Rich Gooch (electric bass), and Brian David Willis (drums and percussion). Having a lead singer who also played the saxophone made Quarterflash notable. In a 1982 interview, Rindy Ross said that she viewed the saxophone as an extension of her voice, enabling her to express things she could not express with her voice alone. The group was formed by merging two popular Oregon bands, Seafood Mama and Pilot (not to be confused with the Scottish band of "Magic" fame). Continuing under the name Seafood Mama, the band originally released the picture-sleeved single "Harden My Heart" on a local private label, Whitefire Records, in the spring of 1980 (with the B-side  track being "City of Roses"). "Harden My Heart" was a big hit on Portland radio stations and got the band a one-hour TV special, Seafood Mama In Concert, on KOIN on June 5, 1980.[6] "Harden My Heart" would later be rerecorded by the band after they renamed themselves Quarterflash. The name came from an Australian slang  description of new immigrants as "a quarter flash, three quarters foolish", which the Rosses found in a book at producer John Boylan's house.

Quarterflash signed to Geffen Records and released their self-titled debut album Quarterflash in September 1981. It reached No. 8 on Billboard's Top LPs & Tapes chart, and sold over a million copies, earning RIAA platinum status on June 30, 1982. The album contained the new version of "Harden My Heart", which became their biggest single, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100  (and the Top 20 in France). The follow-up single from the album, "Find Another Fool", reached No. 16. A second one-hour Portland television special, Quarterflash In Concert, was broadcast on KOIN on October 22, 1981, and simulcast on KGON. This concert was taped at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on October 15th, 1981.

In between albums, the band appeared on soundtracks of two of 1982's biggest films, charting the theme to Ron Howard's Night Shift up to #60 on the Billboard Hot 100, and landing one of their B-sides, "Don't Be Lonely", in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Quarterflash released their second album, Take Another Picture, in 1983. It reached No. 34 in Billboard, and scored the single "Take Me to Heart", which reached No. 14. The group released their final album, Back Into Blue,  in 1985. It peaked at No. 150 in Billboard. The group later disbanded after getting dropped from Geffen Records.

In 1990, Quarterflash reunited, hiring session musicians,  including bassist–vocalist Sandin Wilson, drummer Greg Williams, guitarist Doug Fraser, Mel Weith and Mel Kubik on saxophone and keyboards. The group released Girl in the Wind on Epic Records. In 1991, Rindy and Marv Ross founded the historic music ensemble The Trail Band, which was formed at the request of the Oregon Trail Advisory Council to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Oregon Trail. In June 2008, Marv and Rindy Ross released a new Quarterflash album, Goodbye Uncle Buzz, but it did not chart. In September 2013, the band released a new album, Love Is a Road.

On June 25, 2019, The New York Times Magazine listed Quarterflash among hundreds of artists who lost material in the 2008 Universal fire.

gettyimages-566022437-1-_wide-7e850bcf01

On June 1st, 2008, a fire broke out on the backlot of Universal Studios Hollywood, an American film studio and theme park in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles County, California. The fire began when a worker used a blowtorch to warm asphalt shingles that were being applied to a facade. He left before checking that all spots had cooled, and a three-alarm fire broke out.  Nine firefighters and a Los Angeles County sheriffs' deputy sustained minor injuries. The fire was completely extinguished after 24 hours.
Universal Pictures claimed that the fire destroyed a three-acre (1.2 ha) portion of the Universal backlot, including the attraction King Kong Encounter, and 40,000 to 50,000 archived digital video and film copies.
A 2019 New York Times Magazine exposé asserted that the fire also destroyed 118,000 to 175,000 audio master tapes belonging to Universal Music Group (UMG). This included original recordings belonging to some of the best-selling artists worldwide. UMG initially disputed the story, but CEO Lucian Grainge later confirmed that there had been a significant loss of musical archives. Over 516 firefighters responded, as well as two helicopters dropping water. Randy Aronson, manager of the vault at the time, estimates that the masters of as many as 500,000 individual tracks were lost.

Cutting Crew Biography
Cutting Crew are an English Pop band formed in London in 1985. They are best remembered for their debut album Broadcast and hit singles, "(I Just) Died in Your Arms", "I've Been in Love Before", "One for the Mockingbird", and "Everything But My Pride".

A brief history of the band's origin...

For anyone not entirely convinced of the power of Fate, the story of Cutting Crew could be an interesting one, for they are a band that came together almost entirely because of unforseen events.

Although the band has only been together a few years, it took years of individual experience to make them collectively, what they are today. Lead vocalist Nick Van Eede's musical background stretches back to the late seventies, when he was managed by ex-Animal Chas Chandler, who sent him on a tour of Poland as support for Slade. Nick recalls "I went with a kazoo and an acoustic guitar and opened for Slade in amphitheatres in front of 18,000 people. I went down as a storm and had the loudest kazoo in Europe, because Slade took their own PA on the road!" His career continued with tours supporting headliners like David Essex, Hot Chocolate and Alan Price... but there was always the desire for his own band. The Drivers seemed for a while to be that band, and in the early eighties, they took off for Canada, to a new life and a promising deal. Things were looking good, The Drivers had a couple of hits and went on the road, this time with a support of their own... and it was around this time that Fate came up trumps, with the introduction of Kevin MacMichael.

Canadian Kevin was at that time in a band called Fast Forward... the band that was to support the Drivers on the tour. He had gained invaluable experience in Halifax, Nova Scotia, working the cabarets that go on seven nights a week, until three in the morning! Kevin remembers the tour; "By the end of it, I knew The Drivers' songs really well and Nick used to say, 'why don't you come up and sit in?' They were a three piece band and had always wanted to work with another guitarist."

Commitments meant that a musical relationship got no further than the discussion stage at that time, and after the tour, the pair went their separate ways. However, shortly after their return to the UK, The Drivers disbanded and with nothing to stop him, Nick returned to Canada and began working on his own music. He approached Kevin and more or less told him that if they didn't get together now, they might as well forget it... but Fast Forward were about to tour again and it looked like there was no solution. It was now that Fate really took an upper hand, for on the brink of the tour, the band were involved in a serious car crash... and Kevin was the only one who escaped unhurt. It meant freedom for Kevin and Nick to begin working together and soon after they began writing songs and working on demos in Toronto... but because of existing contracts it was some months before they were able to drop everything else and form a group. "We said it was time to stop talking about it and do it, so we set ourselves definite goals and began auditioning players," says Kevin.

Here Martin Beedle comes into the story. Martin is from Hull and drummed his way around the world before emerging as drummer for Cutting Crew. When he was seventeen, he landed a job in the resident band on the QE2, went wild in many ports in many countries, and followed up with stints backing artists like Dennis Waterman, The Three Degrees and more recently, John Parr. While playing in a pub in Lewisham, he was spotted by the fourth member of the band, Colin Farley.

Bass player Colin grew up with his family encouraging his interest in music, and reckons he got the music bug from his Dad who played in a show band for many years. He turned professional as a teenager and the early days found him working in various studios as a session musician. He was discovered a few years later, by Kevin and Nick, serenading senoritas in a castle in Spain. When Colin happened upon Martin in the pub, he dragged him in quick... "I just knew he was going to be the guy for the band."

The rest, as they say, is history. Cutting Crew signed to Siren Records at the end of 1985, and the first fruit of the relationship was the stunning "(I Just) Died In Your Arms", which took Europe and Britain by storm, and reached number four in the UK national charts. The second single, "I've Been In Love Before", was released to coincide with the release of the album, "Broadcast". The band's first nationwide tour, which ended triumphantly at the Astoria in London's West End, could only be deemed a huge success.

Cutting Crew have only just begun to edge their way into the international music scene... today it's Europe, tomorrow without any doubt and if there is any justice, it will most certainly be the world.

Nick Van Eede (born Nicholas Eede, 14th June 1958) is best known for writing and singing the 1986 No 1 power ballad :(I Just) Died in Your Arms" for his band Cutting Crew,

Bio from the "Broadcast" music book, written circa 1986 (author unknown).

When MTV dawned in the early 1980s, it changed the face of popular music forever, and the British rock group Duran Duran was one of the first acts to take full advantage of its possibilities. The five-member band of young men, with sculpted faces often adorned with make-up and wearing expensive clothes, saw in the music video the perfect vehicle for propelling their musical abilities to fame, fortune, and good times. Combining the sounds of 1970s British punk and the more upbeat, danceable rhythms of disco, Duran Duran began producing clean, sparkling (if not critically acclaimed) pop tunes. But what set them apart immediately were their videos: somewhat surreal escapist fantasies that took the self-styled playboys to such far-flung locales as Sri Lanka and Antigua. Screaming, record-buying, television-watching teenage girls everywhere ate it up—and no one could have predicted it better than the band members themselves. "Video to us is like stereo was to Pink Floyd," Duran Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes told Keith L. Thomas in the Herald. "It was new, it was just happening. And we saw we could do a lot with it." But, with more than 25 years together and more than 70 million albums sold, the group has proven its significance well beyond the video screen.

wp3029782.jpg

While the conservative rock press liked to downplay the success of Duran Duran because of their obvious vanity and lack of attention to "serious" music, it should be noted that some of rock and roll's most time-honored heroes, such as Elvis Presley and even a few members of the Beatles, were never accused of being serious musicians. Success in pop music has always depended upon image at least as much as the music itself. And "serious music" is not necessarily for everyone, as Rolling Stone 's James Henke realized when he referred to Duran Duran's eager fans as "young girls who were glued to their television sets watching MTV every waking hour. These girls had little use for the Clash's left-wing politics, or the ranting and raving of that weird-looking Elvis Costello. But Duran Duran, now they were something else. Five extremely good-looking young men. Dream dates."

Duran Duran began coming together in 1978 (some sources say 1977) in the Midlands city of Birmingham, where Rhodes and guitarist John Taylor started performing with a variety of bandmates. The group, which takes its name from a character in the 1968 film Barbarella, became complete in 1980 when Simon Le Bon, a drop-out drama student, showed up one day in pink leopard-print leotards and said he wanted to sing in the band. Le Bon joined Rhodes, John Taylor (who switched to bass), drummer Roger Taylor, and guitarist Andy Taylor (none of the Taylors are related), and the quintet began performing in Birmingham, most frequently at a club called Rum Runners which had become established as the home of England's burgeoning New Romantic scene. "Donning the foppish clothes of the movement and playing a slick, if superficial, brand of dance-pop, the band was tailor-made for the style obsessed New Romantics," declared Encyclopedia of Rock.

Duran Duran quickly became the headliners of that movement, playing at large clubs and festivals throughout England, and in early 1981 they released their first single, "Planet Earth," which went to number 12 on the United Kingdom charts. Later that year their first album, Duran Duran, went to number three on the album charts and spawned two more hit singles, including "Girls on Film." They had already been shunned by the serious music press at this point, but newer, teen-oriented, image-conscious magazines like Smash Hits and The Face were more than happy to circulate glossy photos of "The Boys," as they had become known. The lavish videos helped transfer this new-found fame to the United States, where "Hungry Like the Wolf" reached number three. Their videos won the group two Grammy Awards in 1983: Best Video—Short Form and Best Video Album. By 1984 Duran Duran was an international phenomenon—their third album, Seven and a Ragged Tiger, debuted at number one and suddenly the boys were living the lives they had created for themselves on video, playing sold-out tour dates around the world.

They were dandies, playboys, and their profiles became plastered on teen magazines everywhere. First there was Rhodes (his name was originally Nicholas Bates), the man who probably most personified the band's gaudy image. Rhodes grew up with John Taylor and both found that they liked the music of glittery stars like T. Rex. "We wouldn't buy records by ugly groups," Rhodes told People, adding that when he and Taylor decided to start a band they "had vivid ideas of what we wanted to look and sound like, but we looked at the instruments and said, 'Do we have to learn to play these things?'" John Taylor was a ladies' man and a huge target for the gossipy British Fleet Street press. His wanderings were well-chronicled there. "Being a rock star is like putting a huge sign in a window, 'For Sale,'" Taylor told People. "I did an interview with Penthouse and they said, 'What's your idea of a great woman?' I said, 'Someone who could tie me up and whip me and make great bacon sandwiches.'" Le Bon was an unlikely pop star in that he still opened doors for women, had a pensive streak that made him yearn for sailing alone on the sea, and because his bandmates once tagged him with the nickname "Lardo" because of his pudginess. Roger and Andy Taylor rounded out the band and were more known for staying in the shadows while the others baited the screaming girls at center stage.

By 1985 Duran Duran had started suffering from the personality conflicts that hamper many bands. Their production slacked off as the players spent more time apart, getting together only occasionally for certain projects, such as the immensely successful single and video for the James Bond movie A View To a Kill. The song was the only Bond theme to go to No. 1 on the charts. John and Andy Taylor began work on an outside project with Robert Palmer in 1985 and formed a band called Power Station, which recorded an album of the same name (which was number 30 that year, according to Rolling Stone ) and played at the Live Aid benefit concert. In the meantime the remaining "thoughtful" members of the group briefly performed and recorded as Arcadia, spawning the LP So Red the Rose. It, too, climbed the charts; Rolling Stone found it harmless and bland: "Egan's lubricated bass line contrasts nicely with Simon's hog-calling tenor . like the Power Station's record, it's proficient, serviceable pop without any unifying drive or purpose. And no matter how obnoxious (or not) you may have found them, personality is one thing Duran Duran never lacked." By 1986 Duran Duran was back intact and recording again, although they would never regain the success of the early 1980s.

Their 1987 effort, Notorious, received the usual chilly reception from critics, but the videos were popular on MTV. Rolling Stone actually went so far as to call Notorious Duran Duran's "most consistently listenable work," but felt the band had lost personality in the search for musical maturity. Big Thing! of 1988 had none of the MTV audience and none of the back-handed compliments of earlier reviews. People panned the album; "As 'mature' musicians, they're marooned." Encyclopedia of Rock summed up Duran Duran's impact on the music world in this way: "Musically, Duran Duran are no more than accomplished studio stylists, skillful welders of a host of disparate elements—hard rock, electro, white soul and, latterly, scratch and hip-hop—into an eminently commercial sound. Far more important was their marketing success, whereby they capitalized on their obvious visual attractions through the media (video and the glossy pop magazines), a technique that became increasingly important in the music industry in the Eighties." Warren Cuccurullo, formerly of the group Missing Persons, began assisting Duran Duran on guitar in 1986; he became a permanent member of the group in 1990.

Liberty, released in 1990, was another of Duran Duran's efforts to renew their past success. This time the band combined "everything from disco to guitar rock, Motown, Philly soul, and new wave," according to Stephen Thomas Erlewine of All Music Guide, creating an album that was stylistically confusing and helped to continue the band's falling sales. The greatest hits compilation Decade: Greatest Hits was also released that year and would eventually earn platinum sales in May of 1998.

The group's fortunes changed, though, in 1993 with the release of what was considered a comeback album, Duran Duran (The Wedding Album) . The album topped the charts at number three and went platinum in June of 1993, powered by the hit singles "Ordinary World," which hit number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and "Come Undone," which charted in the top ten. The album also achieved broad international success, landing among the top-ten selling records in Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, and Argentina. The group toured and was also featured in an MTV Unplugged special.

Thank You, what MusicHound Rock: The Essential Album Guide referred to as a "bizarre" covers album, followed in 1995. Duran Duran's ode to their influences "killed the momentum again," according to MusicHound Rock, eroding the resurgent popularity brought about by Duran Duran (The Wedding Album) . "The idea was to do songs that we wish we'd written," Rhodes told Entertainment Weekly. Medazzaland was released in 1997, minus the contribution of John Taylor, who left the group that year to start a new band, Terroristen. Another greatest hits compilation, this one entitled simply Greatest, was released in 1998. The group left the EMI/Capitol label that same year.

I heard you making patterns rhyme
Like some new romantic looking for the TV sound

Look now, look all around, there's no sign of life
Voices, another sound, can you hear me now?
This is planet earth you're looking at planet earth

My head is stuck on something precious, let me know
If you're coming down to land
Is there anybody out there trying to get through?

With Le Bon and Rhodes the only remaining members of the original lineup, the group released Pop Trash in 2000 on the Hollywood label. The album "marks a bold departure from Duran Duran's signature dance-oriented pop sound into more avant-garde musical experimentation," said Carly Hay in Billboard. "That's what I like about this album: It spans," LeBon told Hay. "This is our statement on how it feels to live a little."

In 2001, Cuccurullo left to re-form Missing Persons, and all five of the original members of Duran Duran reunited to begin work on a new album. At first, Duran Duran had trouble getting signed to a new contract. "Every time we sidled up to a record label, the chief executives would get fired, or the company would be cannibalized by a bigger company," Rhodes explained to Europe Intelligence Wire's Robert Sandall. Duran Duran also had to deal with being considered has-beens. While writing and recording, the band played periodic shows in Japan, the United States, and other countries. On August 28, 2003, the band received a MTV Video Music Award for lifetime achievement. On February 17, 2004, Duran Duran received the BRIT Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. At the award ceremony, they played a selection of their hits, receiving resounding applause. In April of that year, the band launched an arena tour of the United Kingdom, their first full-blown tour with the original lineup in 18 years. The concerts were completely sold-out, helping prove that the band still had a faithful fan base. "It says something that 18 years after the original line-up disbanded, the mere mention of their name can reduce grown women to a state of teenaged hysteria," declared Europe Intelligence Wire's Jeff Magill. "But Duran Duran were the quintessential pop band. They had the good looks, sharp style, and brilliant music required to elevate them to iconic status, where they remain today." After noticing how much public support Duran Duran received, Don Ienner, the head of Sony Music Label Group, signed them to a worldwide contract in 2004. "These guys are very current," Ienner told Entertainment Weekly 's Nicholas Fonseca. "They're not just a nostalgia band coming out and playing their history. They want to finish what they started."

In June of 2004, Duran Duran announced plans to release their first new album with this lineup since 1983's Seven and the Ragged Tiger. The album's first single, "(Reach Up for the) Sunrise," climbed the charts, prior to the album's release. After working on the album for more than three years, the band released Astronaut in October of 2004. Two versions were released: a CD-only version and a limited-edition CD/DVD package that included footage from the band's sold-out April of 2004 show at London's Wembley Arena. Co-produced by Don Gilmore (Linkin Park) and Dallas Austin (Boyz II Men), the album was a return to the band's new-wave sound. "We were very adamant that this has to be classic Duran Duran music," John Taylor told Fonseca in Entertainment Weekly. "But it also had to be modern. It took us several years to strike that balance." According to the Washington Times ' Scott Galupo, the album is "better than anything put out under the band's moniker in more than a decade [and is] among the year's best improbable comeback albums." With the renewed interest in the band, John Taylor told Europe Intelligence Wire's Magill that the band just wants to please the fans. "It's not about the money, you know. We just want to make a difference, I suppose, even if it's just in a few people's lives for one night. That's all a musician can hope for."

In the day nothing matters
It's the night time that flatters

In the night, no control
Through the wall something's breaking
Wearing white as you're walkin'
Down the street of my soul

You take my self, you take my self control
You got me livin' only for the night
Before the morning comes, the story's told
You take my self, you take my self control

Another night, another day goes by
I never stop myself to wonder why
You help me to forget to play my role
You take my self, you take my self control

I, I live among the creatures of the night
I haven't got the will to try and fight
Against a new tomorrow, so I guess I'll just believe it
That tomorrow never comes

A safe night, I'm living in the forest of my dream
I know the night is not as it would seem
I must believe in something, so I'll make myself believe it
That this night will never go

Laura Ann Branigan was born on July 3rd, 1952, in the New York City suburban village of     Brewster New York, the fourth of five children of Kathleen O'Hare Branigan (1921–2006) and James Branigan, Sr. (1914–1984), an account executive and mutual funds broker; they later separated. Branigan's maternal grandparents were William O'Hare, Jr. (son of William John O'Hare and Agnes B. O'Connor) and Mary Conway (daughter of Francis J. Conway and Mary Teresa McGuiness); all of them were Irish. Branigan attended Byram Hills High School from 1966 to 1970, starring in the high school musical The Pajama Game in her senior year.

During the height of her career, Branigan also made acting appearances, first in 1981 in An American Girl in Berlin for West German television, and then after the success of "Gloria", guest appearances on American television series such as CHiPs ("Fox Trap", season 6, episode 16, in which she played Sarah, lead singer of the female rock band Cadillac Foxes), Automan and Knight Rider. She would later appear in independent films including Mugsy's Girls (aka Delta Pi, 1985) with Academy Awards winner Ruth Gordon, and the Australian film Backstahe.  She sang on major national television and radio campaigns for products including Dr Pepper, Coca-Cola and Chrysler which sponsored her 1985–1986 "Hold Me" tour.

The year 1984 was the height of the European synthpop era, and "Self Control", the title track of Branigan's third album, released in April 1984 became her biggest hit internationally, topping the charts in over six countries, most notably West Germany, where it spent six weeks at No. 1. After 1990 Branigan's chart success cooled in the U.S., though she was still in demand around the world and went on several global tours. In 1994, not long after the release of Over My Heart, Larry Kruteck, Branigan's husband (m. 1978), was diagnosed with colon cancer. Branigan refused to accept the medical prognosis, and left the music industry to devote her attention to him. Branigan put Kruteck on herbal treatments, eventually nursing him full-time. Kruteck survived for another two and a half years and died on June 15, 1996, in New York.

Laura Branigan died in her sleep at her lodge in East Quogue, New York, on August 26, 2004, at age 52. The cause was attributed to a previously undiagnosed ventricular brain aneurysm. It was reported in the media that she had been experiencing headaches for several weeks before her death, but did not seek medical attention. Her ashes were scattered over Long Island Sound.

The NHL's St.Louis Blues began using Laura Branigan's cover version of "Gloria" as its unofficial victory song when they went on a franchise-record 11-game winning streak during the 2018-2019 season. A few Blues players visited a bar in South Philadelphia  called Jacks NYB to watch the NFL Wild Card game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears. A club member kept yelling, "Play 'Gloria!'" and DJ Matt Cella obliged by putting on Branigan's catchy pop hit every commercial break. "They just went nuts when they heard it, and we loved watching it," Blues forward Robby Fabbri said. "So we just happened to get a win the next day and made it our win song." The next day the Blues went on to defeat the Philadelphia Flyers in a 3–0 shutout. Jacks members say they have trademarked "Play Gloria" and they have sold over 700 shirts bearing the phrase.

At the time, the Blues had the worst record in the league at 15–18–4, had fired head coach Mike Yeo, called up rookie goaltender Jordan Binnington from the minor leagues to replace struggling starter Jake Allen, and seemed bound for a lost season. Following their January 7 victory over the Flyers, which was Binnington's first NHL start, the Blues played "Gloria" in the locker room to celebrate their victory, with it then becoming a regular locker room ritual. When their stadium's DJ learned of it, he began playing the song in the stadium to rally the team. From January 2019 the Blues would post a 30-10-5 record in the remaining games to finish at 45-28-9 and qualify for a playoff spot, eventually advancing to the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals,  the teams' first Stanley Cup Final since 1970, where they defeated the Boston Bruins in 7 games to win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. The dramatic turnaround in the Blues' fortunes following their adoption of "Gloria" led to it being embraced as their new victory anthem. The song is played at Enterprise Center every time the Blues win a game, leading to "Play Gloria!" becoming both a meme and victory chant for Blues fans. Local radio station Y98 played the song for 24 hours following the Blues' Game 7 double-overtime 2–1 victory over the Dallas Stars on May 8th and again two weeks later on May 22nd after its Game 6 5–1 win over the San Jose Sharks to win the Western Conference Championship and advance to the finals. After the Blues defeated the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup Finals, on June 12th, Y98 played "Gloria" again for 24 hours. The bands Phish and Vampire Weekend who were both holding concerts in St. Louis on the night of Game 7, performed covers of "Gloria" when they learned the Blues had won the Cup.

You must understand though the touch of your hand
Makes my pulse react
That it's only the thrill of boy meeting girl
Opposites attract
It's physical
Only logical
You must try to ignore that it means more than that ooo

What's love got to do, got to do with it
What's love but a second hand emotion
What's love got to do, got to do with it
Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken

It may seem to you that I'm acting confused
When you're close to me
If I tend to look dazed I've read it someplace
I've got cause to be
There's a name for it
There's a phrase that fits
But whatever the reason you do it for me ooo

What's love got to do, got to do with it
What's love but a second hand emotion
What's love got to do, got to do with it
Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken

I've been taking on a new direction
But I have to say
I've been thinking about my own protection
It scares me to feel this way oh oh oh

What's love got to do, got to do with it
What's love but a second hand emotion
What's love got to do, got to do with it
Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken

What's love got to do, got to do with it
What's love but a sweet old fashioned notion
What's love got to do, got to do with it
Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken

ooh got to do with it
(What's love but a second hand emotion)
What's love got to do, got to do with it
Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken
(What's love got to do with it) got to do with it

Having sold over 100 million records, Turner is one of the best-selling recording artists of all time. She has won 12 Grammy Awards, which include eight competitive awards, three Grammy Hall of Fame awards, and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Turner was the first black artist and first female to cover Rolling Stone. Rolling Stone ranked her among the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. Turner has her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the St. Louis Walk of Fame. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Ike Turner in 1991, and is a 2005 recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors. Tina Turner (born Anna Mae Bullock; November 26, 1939) is an American-born Swiss singer, songwriter, dancer, and actress. Known as the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll, Turner rose to prominence as part of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue before launching a successful career as a solo performer. Turner is noted for her energetic stage presence, powerful vocals, trademark legs, and career longevity. In the 1980s, Turner launched "one of the greatest comebacks in music history" as a solo artist.

Tina Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939, in Brownsville, Tennessee, the youngest daughter of Zelma Priscilla (née Currie) and Floyd Richard Bullock. She lived in Nutbush, Tennessee where her father worked as an overseer of the sharecroppers at Poindexter Farm on Highway 180: Bullock later recalled picking cotton with her family at an early age. As a young girl, Bullock sang in the church choir at Nutbush's Spring Hill Baptist Church. When she was 11, her mother Zelma ran off without warning, seeking freedom from her abusive relationship with Floyd by relocating to St Louis in 1950. Two years after her mother left the family, her father married another woman and moved to Detroit in 1952. Bullock and her sisters were sent to live with their grandmother Georgeanna Currie in Brownsville, Tennessee.

Bullock and her sister began to frequent nightclubs in St. Louis and East St. Louis. She first saw Ike Turner perform with his band the Kings of Rhythm at the Manhattan Club in East St. Louis. Bullock was impressed by his talent, recalling that she "almost went into a trance" watching him play. She asked Turner to let her sing in his band despite the fact that few women had ever sung with him. Turner said he'd call her but never did. One night in 1957, she got hold of the microphone from Kings of Rhythm drummer Eugene Washington during an intermission and she sang the B.B. King blues ballad, "You Know I Love You". Upon hearing her sing, Turner asked her if she knew more songs. She sang the rest of the night and became a featured vocalist with his band. During this period, he taught her the finer points of vocal control and performance. Bullock's first recording was in 1958 under the name "Little Ann" on the single "Boxtop". She is credited as a vocalist on the record alongside Ike and fellow Kings of Rhythm singer Carlson Oliver.

Until 1983, Turner was considered a nostalgia act, playing hotel ballrooms and clubs in the United States. During her stint at The Ritz she signed with Capitol Records. In November 1983, she released her cover of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together". The record became a hit, reaching several European charts, including No. 5 in the UK. The song peaked at No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100, and reached the top 10 of the Hot Dance Club Songs and Hot Black Singles charts. Following the single's surprise success, Capitol Records green-lighted a studio album. Turner had two weeks to record her Private Dancer album, which was released in May 1984. It became an outstanding commercial success, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Private Dancer was certified 5× Platinum in the United States, and sold over ten million copies worldwide, becoming her most successful album. Also in May 1984, Capitol issued the album's second single, "What's Love Got to Do with It",  the song had previously been recorded by the pop group Bucks Fizz. Following the album's release, Turner joined Lionel Richie as his opening act on his tour.

Turner's success continued when she traveled to Australia to star opposite Mel Gibson in the 1985 post-apocalyptic film Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. The movie provided her with her first acting role in ten years; she portrayed the glamorous Aunty Entity, the ruler of Bartertown. Upon release, critical response to her performance was generally positive. The film was a global success, grossing more than $36 million in the United States. Turner later received the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress for her role in the film. She recorded two songs for the film, "We Don't Need Another Hero/Thunderdome)" and "One of the Living":  both became hits with the latter winning her a Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.  In July 1985, Turner performed at Live Aid alongside Mick Jagger.  Their performance shocked observers when Jagger ripped her skirt off. Turner released a duet, "It's Only Love", with Bryan Adams. It was nominated for a Grammy Award, and the music video won an MTV Video Music Award for Best Stage Performance. In January 1988, Turner performed in front of approximately 180,000 at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, setting a Guinness World Record at the time for the largest paying concert attendance for a solo artist. The tour played to over 4 million fans and remains the biggest tour, by attendance, for a female artist ever.

Love is a battlefield
Whoo

We are strong
No one can tell us we're wrong
Searching our hearts for so long
Both of us knowing
Love is a battlefield

You're begging me to go
Then making me stay
Why do you hurt me so bad
It would help me to know
Do I stand in your way
Or am I the best thing you've had

Believe me
Believe me
I can't tell you why
But I'm trapped by your love
And I'm chained to your side

We are young
Heartache to heartache we stand
No promises
No demands
Love is a battlefield

We are strong
No one can tell us we're wrong
Searching our hearts for so long
Both of us knowing
Love is a battlefield

When I'm losing control
Will you turn me away
Or touch me deep inside
And when all this gets old
Will it still feel the same
There's no way this will die
But if we get much closer
I could lose control
And if your heart surrenders
You'll need me to hold

We are young
Heartache to heartache we stand
No promises
No demands
Love is a battlefield

We are strong
No one can tell us we're wrong
Searching our hearts for so long
Both of us knowing

Pat Benatar's strong vocals and rock sound, as well as hits like "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" and "Love Is A Battlefield," made her an early MTV star in the 1980s. After divorcing her high school sweetheart, singer Pat Benatar worked the club scene in New York and found her guitarist and future husband Neil Giraldo. Benatar became famous in the 1980s with the release of her second album, Crimes of Passion, which included hits like "Hit Me With Your Best Shot." Born Patricia Mae Andrzejewski on January 10, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York. Raised in nearby Lindenhurst, Long Island, she developed an early passion for music from her mother Millie, a trained opera singer. She was a staple member of the Lindenhurst High School musical department, and as a senior was accepted at the Juilliard School in New York City. But like her mother before her, the young and talented singer swapped the stage for domestic life and chose to marry her high school boyfriend, Dennis Benatar, in 1971. The two moved to Virginia, where Dennis was stationed as a soldier.

f2876d6685294aede5b3a9529bb72d7b.jpg

But Benatar's new life as a housewife and bank teller didn't suit her. When the opportunity arose to join a small cabaret band that played busy Richmond clubs, Benatar jumped at it. With Benatar front-and-center, the band grew in popularity, and further fed the singer's ambition to try and make it as a performer. Eventually Benatar, now divorced, returned to New York. There she worked the club scene, performing classic songs that she believed her audiences wanted to hear. Her talent was hard to miss, and during a performance at the Manhattan club Catch a Rising Star, she caught the attention of a producer from Chrysalis Records, which soon signed her to a record deal. But Benatar was tepid about continuing on with what she'd been doing."My dream was to be the singer in a rockin' band, like Robert Plant was to Led Zeppelin or Lou Gramm to Foreigner," she wrote in her 2010 memoir, Between a Rock and a Hard Place. "I wanted a partnership, like Mick Jagger  and Keith Richards had, an unrelenting back-and-forth between talented musicians. The sound I heard in my head was raucous, with hard-driving guitars speeding everything forward. I was a classically trained singer with a great deal of musical knowledge, but I had no idea how to make that visceral, intense sound happen. I had to evolve, but I didn't know how to make that evolution happen."

Everything changed when she was introduced to Neil Giraldo, a hard-charging rock guitarist whose licks gave Benatar the exact sound she'd been looking for. With Giraldo backing her, Benatar released her debut album, In the Heat of the Night in 1979. The record was a smash success and included two monster hit singles, "Heartbreaker" and "I Need a Lover." A year later, Benatar cemented her status as rock's premier female vocalist with her second album, Crimes of Passion. Backed by three big singles, "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," "Treat Me Right" and "You Better Run", the record went platinum immediately. As the decade continued, Benatar's career only grew. There were more albums and further popular singles, like "Love is a Battlefield" and "We Belong," whose videos got heavy play on MTV. Her status as a 1980s icon, however, didn't translate entirely well in the 1990s. While Benatar continued to produce music, including albums like Gravity's Rainbow (1993) and Innamorata (1997), the singer struggled to match her earlier success.

0y8JTMy.jpg

She was also sidetracked by her family life. In 1982, Benatar and her guitarist, Neil Giraldo, married. The couple maintains a strong partnership on and off stage and they have two daughters, Haley and Hana. In recent years Benatar, whose last album, Go, was released in 2003, has tapped into the nostalgia surrounding the 1980s. She continues to perform live, and in 2009 hit the road with another pioneering female rock musician, Debbie Harry for a series of concerts. In all, Benatar's career includes 10 platinum albums, eight No. 1 singles and four Grammy awards.

I got it bad
You don't know how bad I got it
You got it easy
You don't know when you've got it good
It's getting harder
Just keeping life and soul together
I'm sick of fighting
Even though I know I should
The cold is biting
Through each and every nerve and fibre
My broken spirit is frozen to the core
I don't want to be here no more

Wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes
Even if it was for just one day?
Wouldn't it be good if we could wish ourselves away?
Wouldn't it be good to be on your side?
The grass is always greener over there
Wouldn't it be good if we could live without a care?

You must be joking
You don't know a thing about it
You've got no problem
I'd stay right there if I were you
I got it harder
You couldn't dream how hard I got it
Stay out of my shoes
If you know what's good for you
The heat is stifling
Burning me up from the inside
The sweat is coming through each and every pore
I don't want to be here no more
I don't want to be here no more
I don't want to be here no more

Wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes
Even if it was for just one day?
Wouldn't it be good if we could wish ourselves away?
Wouldn't it be good to be on your side?
The grass is always greener over there
Wouldn't it be good if we could live without a care?

I got it bad
You don't know how bad I got it
You got it easy
You don't know when you've got it good
It's getting harder
Just keeping life and soul together
I'm sick of fighting
Even though I know I should

Nik Kershaw Shame On You

I would go to hell in a hat
If you asked me to, my love
It might be a good thing at that for me

I would catch the breeze
From my trees
And the stars from up above
I'd go round the world on my knees for you

Shame on you, shame on you
Oh what does a boy have to do for you
Shame on you, shame on you
Oh what does a boy have to do

I would fight a great white with my hands
Just to see your pretty face
Ask me and I might serenade for you

I would cross the seas for a smile
And the warmth of your embrace
I'd only be to pleased to die for you

Shame on you, shame on you
Oh what does a boy have to do for you
Shame on you, shame on you
Oh what does a boy have to do

Shame on you, shame on you
Oh what does a boy have to do for you
Shame on you, shame on you
Oh what does a boy have to do

Shame on you, shame on you
Oh what does a boy have to do for you

Nik Kershaw Cloak and dagger

You may never get to wander
Along the corridors of power
Where the files tell your story
Beneath the bell that keeps it's secret by the hour
We wanna know what's it's got to say.

We know what you're doing
We know what you've got
We know how you got it
But we don't talk a lot

And everything's so
Cloak and dagger
Our future in their hands
Promises of promised lands
Cloak and dagger
Our world behind closed doors
And what they have is mine and yours

We give you bits and pieces
To keep you happy and fat
We know the things that matter
But we don't talk about that

Mums the word

Cloak and dagger
Our future in their hands
Promises of promised lands
Cloak and dagger
Our world behind closed doors
And what they have is mine and yours

When there's still conflict and confusion
After everything they've tried
Why can't they just let go of their secrets
Cos there's no suspicion when there's nothing left to hide
There's nothing left to hide

We know that things that matter
But we're not telling you
Cos you might try to stop us
And that would never do

And everything's so
Cloak and dagger
Our future in their hands
Promises of promised lands
Cloak and dagger
Our world behind closed doors

And what they have is mine and yours

Thompson Twins were a British pop band that formed in April 1977. Initially a new wave group,  they switched to a more mainstream pop sound and achieved considerable popularity from 1983, scoring a string of hits in the United Kingdom, the United States, and around the world. In 1993, they changed their name to Babble, to reflect their change in music from new wave to dub-influenced chill out. They continued as Babble to 1996, at which point the group permanently dissolved.

THOMPSON TWINS -  STORM ON THE SEA

This party is over, and we, we are alone
And i feel so helpless, there's nowhere to go, but
(Chorus)
To storm on the sea
No stranger to me
Light on the shore
So let the wind blow
Carry me home
Lead me to your door
The room is so quiet
Hush, don't you cry
Daybreak is dawning cold in the sky
So don't tell me your name
I can't stay here
Can't a cruel light of morning drive me away
(Repeat chorus)

The band was named after the two bumbling detectives Thompson and Thompson in Hergé comic strip The Adventures of Tintin. At various stages, the band had up to seven members, but their most known incarnation was as a trio between 1982 and 1986. They became a prominent act in the US during the Seconds British Invasion, and in 1985, the band performed at Live Aid, where they were joined onstage by Madonna.

I have a picture
Pinned to my wall
An image of you and of me and we're laughing, we're loving it all
But look at our life now
All tattered and torn
We fuss and we fight and delight in the tears that we cry until dawn
Oh, whoa

Hold me now, whoa
Warm my heart
Stay with me
Let loving start
Let loving start

You say I'm a dreamer, we're two of a kind
Both of us searching for some perfect world we know we'll never find
So perhaps I should leave here
Yeah, yeah, and go far away
But you know that there's nowhere that I'd rather be than with you here today
Oh, whoa, oh, whoa

Hold me now, whoa
Warm my heart
Stay with me
Let loving start
Let loving start, whoa
Hold me now, whoa
Warm my heart
Stay with me
Let loving start
Let loving start, whoa

You ask if I love you
Well, what can I say?
You know that I do and if this is just one of those games that we play
So I'll sing you a new song
Please don't cry anymore
I'll even ask your forgiveness
Though I don't know just what I'm asking it for
Oh, whoa, oh, whoa

Hold me now, whoa
(Hold me in your loving arms)
Warm my heart
(Warm my cold and tired heart)
Stay with me
(Stay with me)
Let loving start
Let loving start, whoa
Hold me now, whoa
(Hold me in your loving arms)
Warm my heart
(Warm my cold and tired heart)
Stay with me
Let loving start
Let loving start, whoa
Hold me now, whoa
(Hold me in your loving arms)
Warm my heart
(Warm my cold and tired heart)
Stay with me
(Stay with me)
Let loving start
Let loving start, whoa
Hold me now, whoa
(Hold me in your loving arms)
Warm my heart
(Warm my cold and tired heart)
Stay with me
(Stay with me)
Let loving start
Let loving start, whoa
Hold me now, whoa

The Thompson Twins - Who Can Stop The Rain

I was dancing in heaven, you were keeping time
Then I read your letter, sent shivers down my spine
Said our love was over and I was not the one
If it lasts forever, forever wouldn't be much fun
Who can stop the rain?
Who can stop the rain from falling?
Who can stop this pain
That's drowning me?
I could hear the sound of laughter, I thought that love was in the air
I was drowning in that golden age, you really seemed to care
I'm haunted by a dream of giant human beings
I wait alone for hours, love is never what it seems
Who can stop the rain?
Who can stop the rain from falling?
Who can stop this pain
That's drowning me? Oh, oh oh
Who can stop the rain?
Who can stop the rain from falling?
Who can stop this pain
That's drowning me? Oh, oh oh
You always had fantastic plans that I always knew
And now you want to leave me out, so it's raining just for you
Those changes that you wanted make you ten feet tall
I tried to move those mountains but mountains never move at all
Who can stop the rain?
Who can stop the rain from falling?
Who can stop this pain
That's drowning me? Oh, oh oh
Who can stop the rain?
Who can stop the rain from falling?
Who can stop this pain
That's drowning me? Oh, oh oh
Who can stop the rain?
Who can stop the rain from falling?
Who can stop this pain
That's drowning me? Oh, oh oh
Who can stop the rain?
Who can stop the rain from falling?
Who can stop this pain

Alvin Stardust - Pretend

Pretend you're happy when you're blue
It isn't very hard to do
And you will find happiness without
An end if you pretend

Remember anyone can dream
And nothin's bad as it may seem
The little things you haven't got could be
A lot if you pretend

You'll find a love you can share
One you can call your own
Just close your eyes you'll be there
You'll never be alone

And if you sing this melody
You'll be pretending just like me
The world is mine it can be yours my friend
So why don't you pretend

You'll find a love you can share
One you can call your own
Just close your eyes you'll be there
You'll never be alone

And if you sing this melody
You'll be pretending just like me
The world is mine it can be yours my friend
So why don't you pretend
So why don't you pretend
So why don't you pretend

Bernard William Jewry (27th September 1942 – 23rd October 2014), known professionally as Shane Fenton and later as Alvin Stardust, was an English rock singer and stage actor. Performing first as Shane Fenton in the 1960s, Jewry had a moderately successful career in the pre-Beatles era, hitting the UK top 40 with four singles in 1961–62. However, he became better known for singles released in the 1970s and 1980s as Alvin Stardust, a character he began in the glam rock era, with hits including the UK Singles Chart-topper "Jealous Mind", as well as later hits such as "Pretend" and "I Feel Like Buddy Holly".

What a childish game to play
You had it all
And threw it all away

You were not the first my love
Don't kid yourself
You sure won't be the last
You have just yourself to blame
A fool's a fool
By any other name

You'll never know you'll never know
You'll never know you'll never know
You'll never know
How close we came

Nothing but the best for you would do
My love was vintage wine
Now your just a memory
You've gone from me
Just so much wasted time
You can rest assured that I won't cry
Tears where never quite my style
I stopped crying long ago
With life erased forever from my mind

You'll never know you'll never know
You'll never know you'll never know
You'll never know You'll never know
You'll never know
How hard I tried

You'll never know you'll never know
You'll never know you'll never know
We could of had it all

Exile is an American band originally formed in 1963. In the 1970s they were known as a rock band that had a major hit single with "Kiss You All Over" in 1978. After several lineup changes, the band was re-launched as a country act that achieved additional success in the 1980s and 90s. J.P.Pennington is the only current member of the band remaining from its early days. The origins of Exile are with a high school band in Richmond, Kentucky, called the Fascinations, which featured singer Jimmy Stokley. In 1963, the Fascinations merged with another local band and became Jimmy Stokley and the Exiles, with singer/guitarist J.P.Pennington, then age 14, joining a short time later. They toured regionally with the Dick Clark Caravan of Stars in 1965. Their name was later shortened to The Exiles, apparently to show support for Cuban refugees.

In and out of love

Hey love, look what you've done to me
You chained me with hostility
So I could never see
You know the nightmares I've been havin'
about you and me definitely gonna come through
(Here today gone tomorrow) tomorrow
So much hurt, tears and sorrow

I keep fallin'
(in and out of love) I keep fallin'
(in and out of love) in and out of love
(in and out of love) I keep fallin'
(in and out of love) I keep fallin'
(in and out of love) in and out of love

So long it was scared us
She was in my hands once again
Drove me round and round
I lied, hated and abused her
Then I touch and kiss, caress her lips
And confuse my mind

tomorrow
(So much hurt, tears and sorrow) Ooh ooh

I keep fallin'
(in and out of love) I keep fallin'
(in and out of love) in and out of love
(in and out of love) I keep fallin'

Aaah yeah

I keep fallin', fallin', fallin', fallin',

your love yeah

Morning, afternoon and night
We lay together side by side
Searchin' for lust, searchin' for breath
Searchin' for the touch of life

No words are spoken, the only sound we hear is
Body talk, body talk

The heat of passion is such a beautiful thing
As it overflows, pleasure grows
All the dreams it can bring

Your lips in my eyes and gentle sighs
If body talk, body talk

Cool and kind, so soft and pure, a touching moment
Heated feelings once exploded, but have melted
We were two souls torn apart with bitter ages
Through expression, not aggression, we have become one

Body talk, body talk

Cool and kind, so soft and pure, a touching moment
Heated feelings once explode but have melted
Ooh, we are two souls torn apart with bitter ages
Through expression, not aggression, we have become one

Touching any heart along the way yeah

Illusion ooh, aoh, ooh, ooh, ah ah, illusion

Follow your emotions, everywhere
There's a bit of magic in the air
Never let your feelings get you down
Open up your eyes and look around

It's just illusion ooh, aoh, ooh, ooh, ah-ah
Illusion ooh, aoh, ooh, ooh, ah ah, illusion

Could it be that, it's just an illusion
Putting me back, in all this confusion?
Could it be that, it's just an illusion

Could it be a picture in my mind?
Never sure exactly what I'll find
Only in my dreams I turn you on
Here for just a moment then you're gone

It's just illusion ooh, aoh, ooh, ooh, ah-ah

Formed in early 1981, the trio took a demo tape of a track called "Body Talk" to producers Jolley & Swain. It was released as a single in April 1981 under the group name Imagination, a name that the group chose as a tribute to John Lennon. The track reached number 4 in the UK Singles Chart  in July 1981, selling 250,000 copies in the UK and spending eighteen weeks in the Top 50. They had two more smash hit singles that year,  "In and Out of Love" (September) and "Flashback" (November), both of which peaked at number 16, all from their debut album, also called Body Talk.

CHARLIE DORE You Should Hear (How She Talks About You)

She's so very nice
You should break the ice
Let her know that she's on your mind
What you trying to hide
When you know inside
She's the best thing you'll ever find
Ah, can't you see it
Don't you think she's feeling the same
Ah, I guarantee it
She's the one that's calling your name

Chorus:
You should hear how she talks about you
You should hear what she said
She says she would be lost without you
She's half out of her head
You should hear how she talks about you
She just can't get enough
She says she would be lost without you
She is really in love

I ain't telling tales
Anybody else could repeat the things that I've heard
She's been talking sweet and it's on the street
How our girlfriend's spreading the word
Ah, you should hurry
You should let her know how you feel
Ah, now don't you worry
If you know the story's for real

Repeat first half of the Chorus

You should hear how she talks about you
She is really in love

Ah, you should hurry
You should let her know how you feel
Ah, now don't you worry
If you're scared the love is for real

Repeat Chorus and then fade

Charlie Dore (born 1956) is an English singer-songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and actress. Although best known as a singer-songwriter, Dore has a multi-faceted career that includes acting in film, TV and radio, comedy-improvisation and composition for film and TV. She studied drama at the Arts Educational School, Tring and London. Dore worked for two years in repertory in Newcastle at the Tyneside Theatre Company, starting in the touring company, Stagecoach, where she performed in theatres, schools, streets, a psychiatric hospital, Oxford University and the Swan Hunter shipyard canteen. Moving back to London she worked in fringe theatre and then joined Thames TV's long-running series Rainbow for 18 months, writing and performing songs with Julian Littman, whom she had met at drama school, and Karl Johnson, an actor-musician from the Tyneside Theatre Company. A friend, blues guitarist Sam Mitchell, asked her to deputise for him at Obelisk, a Westbourne Grove pancake house where he played on Monday nights. Dore co-opted Julian Littman and Karl Johnson to help pad out the long sets required and the band grew, eventually including Karl's brother Stuart Johnson on banjo and dobro, and various guests on fiddle, mandolin and guitar. This was the basis of her first band, Hula Valley. The band played a selection of bluegrass, western swing and hillbilly music, as Dore was yet to start her own songwriting. As the band grew and changed shape and name, from Prairie Oyster to Fresh Oyster to Charlie Dore's Back Pocket, original material started to flow and the band played the London pub and club circuit, regularly appearing at The Hope & Anchor, The Half Moon, Dingwalls and the Rock Garden. During this period the band personnel was still changing and included, among others, Charlie Gaisford, Ian McCann, Keith Nelson, Gus York, Garrick Dewar and Pick Withers on drums, who was also playing with the early Dire Straits.

Her mother, Jean Silverside, was a television actress, and her father, Sefton Myers, was a successful property developer who also managed artists and singers—most notably Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice during the writing of Jesus Christ Superstar. When Tzuke embarked on her singing career, she decided to reclaim the family's Polish name as her stage name. Educated in the visual arts, performing arts, and music, Tzuke performed in folk clubs from the age of 15. Her meeting with Mike Paxman in 1975 was a turning point and they began to collaborate. Under the name Tzuke & Paxo, they eventually secured a recording contract and the duo released a single, "These are the Laws", produced by Tony Visconti. Tzuke's career as a solo artist began in 1977, when she signed to Elton John's label The Rocket Record Company. Her first single on Rocket, "For You", was released in 1978. Her only notable success, "Stay with Me Till Dawn", was released in 1979.

Judie Tzuke:-'Fate's Wheels'

You're asking me to put the cards on the table
Caterpillars become butterflies
You have to understand we're not playing a game
The game is playing us

Fate's wheels are slow and grinding
But sometimes the wheel starts to roll
And it pushes everything beside it
And only the strong survive

Hold on to me if you need me
I'll be holding on to you
We'll take our fate as they deal it
Only the strong survive

You watch how they twist and turn you
Watch where the knives come from
Don't let them know you feel them hurting
Only the strong survive

Fate's wheels are slow and grinding
But sometimes the wheel starts to roll
And it pushes everything beside it
And only the strong survive

Hold on to me if you need me
I'll be holding on to you
We'll take our fate as they deal it
Only the strong survive
Hold on to me if you need me
I'll be holding on to you
We'll take our fate as they deal it
Only the strong survive

Hold on to me if you need me
I'll be holding on to you
We'll take our fate as they deal it
Only the strong survive
Hold on to me if you need me
I'll be holding on to you
We'll take our fate as they deal it
Only the strong survive
Hold on to me if you need me
I'll be holding on to you
We'll take our fate as they deal it
Only the strong survive

Hold on to me if you need me
I'll be holding on to you
We'll take our fate as they deal it...

Judie Tzuke:-'City Of Swimming Pools'

City of swimming pools
City of swimming pools
Where you can buy anything
Then take it for your own
Well, I bought time
To find what keeps them apart

Why is it I can't see any other history?
Where did the dreamtime go?
In your heart you really ought to know

City of swimming pools
Resting in water
You say you're proud of what you've done
Well, I bought time
And I found no beauty in life

Why is it I can't see any other history?
(In your heart)
Where did the dreamtime go?
In your heart you really ought to know

Well, I have brought the pictures
A line from every face
So frightened of the future
Where is that place?
In a city of swimming pools
In a city of swimming pools
In a city of swimming pools

City of swimming pools
Where you can buy anything
Then take it for your own
Well, I bought time
And I found no beauty in life

Why is it I can't see any other history?
(In your heart)
Where did the dreamtime go?
In your heart you really ought to know
Why is it I can't see any other history?
(In your heart)
Where did the dreamtime go?
In your heart you really ought to know
(To know, to know, to know...)

To know
In a city of swimming pools
In a city of swimming pools

You know
In a city of swimming pools
In a city of swimming pools

You know
In a city of swimming pools
In a city of swimming pools

You know
In a city of swimming pools
In a city of swimming pools

You know
In a city of swimming pools
In a city of swimming pools

Pink Floyd V Judy Tzuke Breath With Me Till Dawn

Is this a game you're playin'
I don't understand what's goin' on
I can't see through your frown
First you're up
Then you're down
You're keepin' me from someone
I want to know

But I need you tonight
(Need you tonight)
Yes I need you tonight
(Need you tonight)
And I'll show you a sunset
If you'll stay with me till dawn...

It's the same old situation
Every word so finely placed
Runnin' around
My concentration
Is the feelin' that I've just got to
Break out and say

Oh I need you tonight
(Need you tonight)
Yes I need you tonight
(Need you tonight)
And I'll show you a sunset
If you'll stay with me till dawn...

Is this a game you're playin'
Playin' with my heart
(Need you tonight)
Ooh stop playin' with my heart
(Need you tonight)
And I'll show you a sunset
If you'll stay with me till dawn...

Yes I'll show you a sunset
If you'll stay with me till dawn

Kate Bush - Babooshka - Official Music Video

She wanted to test her husband
She knew exactly what to do
A pseudonym
To fool him
She couldn't have made a worst move

She sent him scented letters
And he received them with a strange delight
Just like
His wife
But how she was before the tears

And how she was before the years flew by
And how she was when she was beautiful
She signed the letter

All yours
Babooshka, babooshka, babooshka ja, ja
All yours
Babooshka, babooshka, babooshka ja, ja

She wanted to take it further
So she arranged a place to go
To see
If he
Would fall for her incognito

And when he laid eyes on her
He got the feeling they had met before
Uncanny
How she
Reminds him of his little lady
Capacity to give him all he needs

Just like his wife before she freezed on him
Just like his wife when she was beautiful
He shouted out

I'm all yours
Babooshka, babooshka, babooshka ja, ja
All yours
Babooshka, babooshka, babooshka ja, ja
All yours
Babooshka, babooshka, babooshka ja, ja

Babooshka, babooshka, babooshka ja, ja
Babooshka, babooshka, babooshka ja, ja
Babooshka, babooshka, babooshka ja, ja

Kate Bush was born in Bexleyheath, Kent, to an English doctor, general practitioner Robert Bush (1920–2008), and Hannah (1918–1992), née Daly, an Irish staff nurse, daughter of a farmer in County Waterford. She was raised as a Roman Catholic and grew up in the family's farmhouse in East Wickham, an urban village in the neighbouring town of Welling, with her elder brothers, John and Paddy. Bush came from an artistic background: her mother was an amateur traditional Irish dancer, her father was an amateur pianist, Paddy worked as a musical instrument maker, and John was a poet and photographer. Both brothers were involved in the local folk music scene. Bush trained at Goldsmiths College karate club, where her brother John was a karateka. There, she became known as "Ee-ee" because of her squeaky kiai. Her family's musical influence inspired Bush to teach herself the piano at the age of 11. She also played the organ in a barn behind her parents' house and studied the violin. She soon began composing songs, eventually adding her own lyrics.

Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights - Official Music Video - Version 1

Out on the wiley, windy moors
We'd roll and fall in green
You had a temper, like my jealousy
Too hot, too greedy
How could you leave me
When I needed to possess you?
I hated you, I loved you too

Bad dreams in the night
You told me I was going to lose the fight
Leave behind my wuthering, wuthering
Wuthering Heights

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy
I've come home, I'm so cold
Let me in your window
Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy
I've come home, I'm so cold
Let me in your window

Ooh, it gets dark, it gets lonely
On the other side from you
I pine a lot, I find the lot
Falls through without you
I'm coming back love, cruel Heathcliff
My one dream, my only master

Too long I roam in the night
Coming back to his side to put it right
Coming home to wuthering, wuthering
Wuthering Heights

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy
I've come home, I'm so cold
Let me in your window
Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy
I've come home, I'm so cold
Let me in your window

Ooh, let me have it
Let me grab your soul away
Ooh, let me have it
Let me grab your soul away
You know it's me, Cathy.

Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy
I've come home, I'm so cold
Let me in your window
Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy
I've come home, I'm so cold
Let me in your window
Heathcliff, it's me, I'm Cathy
I've come home, I'm so cold

Bush attended St Joseph's Convent Grammar School, a Catholic girls' school in nearby Abbey Wood which, in 1975, after she had left, became part of St Mary's and St Joseph's School in Sidcup. During this time her family produced a demo tape with over 50 of her compositions, which was turned down by record labels. Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour received the demo from Ricky Hopper, a mutual friend of Gilmour and the Bush family. Impressed, Gilmour helped the sixteen-year-old Bush record a more professional demo tape. Three tracks in total were recorded and paid for by Gilmour. The tape was produced by Gilmour's friend Andrew Powell, who went on to produce Bush's first two albums, and sound engineer Geoff Emerick, who had worked with the Beatles. The tape was sent to EMI executive Terry Slater, who signed her.
