Rush Hour (Extended Version) - Jane Wiedlin
Rush Hour (Extended Version) - Jane Wiedlin
Something's coming over me
I'm so dizzy I can't see
Can't make out the forest for the trees
My heart is beating faster now
As the traffic's slowing down
And suddenly I'm all alone with you
It's so good
Baby when you're at the wheel
I can't believe the way I feel
It's such a rush
Just being with you
Chorus
We're Driving in the Rush Hour
(ooh you send me)
You take me to the Rush Hour
You got me in the Rush Hour
Feel it getting hot in here
Feel me getting close to you dear
Slow motion moving you, moving me
Now your lips are touching mine
And in your eyes that certain shine
Honey, I know just where you're taking me
It's so good
Baby when you're at the wheel
I can't believe the way I feel
It's such a rush
Just being with you
Chorus
Chorus continues until fade out
Wiedlin was born in Oconomowoc, Waukesha County, Wisconsin. Her father, Robert Arthur Wiedlin, Sr., an oral surgeon of German and Swiss ancestry, was born in Chicago. Her mother, Betty Jane (née Herro), was of Lebanese heritage, from Oconomowoc, where many immigrants from Lebanon settled. Wiedlin's parents met while students at Marquette University and later married. She spent her early childhood growing up in West Allis, a suburb of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is one of five children, with a sister and three brothers, growing up in a Catholic family. When Wiedlin was six, her father took a job with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs at a VA hospital in Los Angeles, and the family followed. As a child, Wiedlin listened to pop music, especially that of the Beatles and the Monkees. As a teenager, Wiedlin was a fan of Sparks, with whom she would record "Cool Places" years later. Wiedlin has stated, "I remember my childhood as extremely idyllic." She has also mentioned her teenage adolescence with angst and hope by saying, "I would definitely be a less-depressed teenager. I thought life was completely pointless when I was in high school, but just a few short years later I was having the adventure of a lifetime in a successful rock band!" Wiedlin attended William Howard Taft High School in Los Angeles from 1972 until 1976.
Wiedlin is a long-time animal rights activist, and has worked with PETA since as far back as 1989 when she performed as part of a "Rock Against Fur" concert in New York City. She is a friend of PETA executive Dan Mathews. Wiedlin is an atheist and an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church, a mail-order religious organization that offers anyone semi-immediate, no-cost ordination as a ULC minister. Wiedlin identifies herself as "Reverend Sister Go-Go," primarily officiating at weddings. In 1981, Wiedlin and Tery Hall of Fun Boy Three and the Specials co-wrote "Our Lips Are Sealed". The song peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at No, 20, where it remained until 1982. Hall also recorded the song with Fun Boy Three, hitting No. 7 in the U.K.
Jane Wiedlin as Joan of Arc in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, 1989)
According to Wiedlin, she was present "pretty much from the beginning" of the Los Angeles punk scene. While attending college in the Los Angeles area for fashion design, she worked at a fashion-design house where she created song lyrics by scribbling ideas on clothing patterns. Under the moniker Jane Drano, she would later design punk-style clothing that she sold at Franny Takes a Trip, a store on Sunset Boulevard. She became part of the scene that spawned bands such as X, the Germs and the Weirdos. Wiedlin and Belinda Carlisle formed the Go-Go's as a punk band called the Misfits in 1978, with Margot Olaverra on bass and Elissa Bello on drums. The Go-Go's pop punk sound emerged when Charlotte Caffey joined on lead guitar and keyboards, and Gina Schock replaced Bello on drums. After a 1980 tour of England, the band added Kathy Valentine on bass. They signed with IRS Records in April 1981. Wiedlin remained part of the Go-Go's until October 1984 when she left to pursue a solo career. Her most successful single was 1988's "Rush Hour", which performed well in both the American and British charts. The song appeared on her second album, Fur.
Wiedlin's early acting credits include a brief appearance as an officer seen on a Starfleet Command video screen in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986), an ill-fated singing telegram girl in Clue (1985), and the White Fairy in Golan-Globus's Sleeping Beauty (1987). Wiedlin has also provided voices for characters in television and film animation, such as Bruce Wayne's girlfriend in an episode of The New Batman Adventures, Gwen on Mission Hill and Dusk of the Hex Girls, a recurring character in the Scooby-Doo franchise.

When I first saw you
Something stirred within me
You were standing sultry in the rain
If I could've held you
I would've held you
Rip it up and start again
Rip it up and start again
Rip it up and start again
I hope to God you're not as dumb as you make out
I hope to God
I hope to God
And I hope to God I'm not as numb as you make out
I hope to God
I hope to God
And when I next saw you
My heart reached out for you
But my arms stuck like glue to my sides
If I could've held you
I would've held you
But I'd choke rather than swallow my pride
Rip it up and start again
Rip it up and start again
Rip it up and start again
I hope to God you're not as dumb as you make out
I hope to God
I hope to God
And I hope to God I'm not as numb as you make out
I hope to God
I hope to God
And there was times I'd take my pen
And feel obliged to start again
I do profess
That there are things in life
That one can't quite express
You know me I'm acting dumb-dumb
You know this scene is very humdrum
And my favourite song's entitled 'boredom'
Rip it up and start again
I said rip it up and start again
I said rip it up and rip it up and rip it up and rip it up and rip it up and start again

Orange Juice was a Scottish jangle pop band founded in the Glasgow suburb of Bearsden as the Nu-Sonics in 1976. Edwyn Collins formed the Nu-Sonics (named after a model of guitar made by Burns) with his school-mate Alan Duncan, and was subsequently joined by James Kirk and Steven Daly, who left an act called The Machetes. They became Orange Juice in 1979, best known for their only UK Top 40 hit "Rip It Up", which reached number 8 on the UK Singles Chart in February of 1983. The band released their first singles during 1980 and 1981 on the independent Postcard Records label founded by Alan Home, along with fellow Scottish bands Josef K and Aztec Camera. These included "Blue Boy" and "Simply Thrilled Honey". Shortly afterwards, this line-up signed to Polydor Records and recorded their first album, You Can't Hide Your Love Forever. However, internal tensions led to Kirk and Daly leaving in early 1982 (they would go on to form a short-lived band called Memphis), and for the next two album releases the line-up was Collins and David McClymont on bass guitar and keyboards, with Malcolm Ross on guitar, vocals, and keyboards, and drummer Zeke Manyika. By early 1984, Ross and McClymont had left the group, leaving a core line-up of Collins and Manyika who recorded Orange Juice's final album, The Orange Juice, with Clare Kenny and Johnny Britten, produced by Dennis Bovell. The band's only Top 40 hit, "Rip It Up" was achieved with the aid of the synthesizer – it was the first hit to use the Roland TB-303. The Postcard Records-era history of Orange Juice is featured in the 2015 documentary film Big Gold Dream. The discography of the Scottish band Orange Juice consists of three studio albums, a mini-album, seven compilations, a box-set album, and fourteen singles (including an unreleased "Wan Light" single).

Spread the calm to meet the others
Pleasure fills with love 'til dawn

Can't lose this mood gentle
With summer at our ears

The Lotus Eaters are an English new wave band formed in 1982 in Liverpool. Their debut single, "The First Picture of You", became a hit in the UK and in continental Europe, notably France, Italy, Belgium and Spain. Produced by Nigel Gray, "The First Picture of You" became an iconic song for the Lotus Eaters in 1983, giving them a UK hit single before the band had even played a live gig.
In September 1982, Peter Coyle and Jeremy "Jem" Kelly met for the first time. Kelly had been guitarist in the Dance Party with Micheal Head and co-founded "the Wild Swans in 1980. The band recorded a second session for John Peel's BBC Radio 1 show in October 1983. Coyle had previously been in the Jass Babies, who had recorded a session for John Peel's BBC RaDIO 1 show in 1981. After an invitation to record a Peel session, a number of new songs were created. Joined on keyboards by Kelly's fellow ex-Wild Swans member Ged Quinn, drummer Alan Wills and bassist Phil Lucking, the session was recorded in October 1982 and included "The First Picture of You". This led to the band being signed by Arista Records. The band's debut studio album, No Sense of Sin, was released in 1984 on Arista subsidiary Sylvan Records, preceded by two further singles, "You Don't Need Someone New" and "Out on Your Own". Both of these songs hit the top 100 of the UK Singles Chart, but owing to difficulties with producers and marketing, the impact of "The First Picture of You" was not repeated in the UK. After Quinn left, Coyle and Kelly recruited bassist Michael Dempsey (the Cure, Associates), keyboard player Stephen Emmer (formerly of Minny Pops and Associates) and drummer Steve Crease. The Lotus Eaters toured extensively in the UK, France and Italy before going on hiatus in 1985 after parting ways with Arista. "It Hurts", their final single, charted in the Italian Top 5 that year, but the band had already split up, leaving a promotional video featuring footage of Louise Brooks to represent them.

I want to be
I want to play with you tonight
Hold me, that's all that's on my mind
Baby, something feels so right
Maybe we could play tonight
I want to be so in love with you
I want to do just what you want to do
I want to be all that to you
I got a dream and you can make it true
'Cause I, I'm fascinated by your love, boy
And I'm fascinated by your love toy
I'm fascinated by the way you make me feel
'Cause I, I'm fascinated by your love, boy
And I'm fascinated by your love toy
I'm fascinated by the way you make me feel
Love me until the morning light
Please me, make me feel alright
Kiss me, let me make you mine
I love it, loving you sometime
Come on, come on, I want to be with you
Come on, come on, I won't get over you
I want to do just what you want me to
I got a dream and you can make it good
'Cause I, I'm fascinated by your love, boy
And I'm fascinated by your love toy
I'm fascinated by the way you make me feel
'Cause I, I'm fascinated by your love, boy
And I'm fascinated by your love toy

Company B is an American Latin freestyle trio formed in 1986 by Cuban-American producer Ish "Angel" Ledesma, featuring members Lori L. (Ledesma), Charlotte McKinnon and Susan (Gonzalez) Johnson. Before the group's self-titled album was released, Charlotte McKinnon left and was replaced by Lezlee Livrano. After the group’s self-titled debut album, Susan Johnson left and was replaced by Sheena. For the group's second album, 1989's Gotta Dance, Sheena and Lezlee Livrano both left the group and were replaced by Donna Huntley and Julie Marie (who also was a rotating performer with Exposé.
Company B resulted from the music trend of PRODUCER-DRIVEN GIRL GROUPS in the late 1980s and early 1990s, most successfully the group Exposé. Company B's first single "Fascinated" was released in 1986 on the independent label The Summer. The song created so much buzz in clubs around Miami that it soon made its way to local radio stations. This in turn led to its being picked up and re-released by Atlantic records. With a much wider distribution due to major label (Atlantic Records) backing, "Fascinated" received significant radio and club airplay in all major cities throughout the U.S. It reached number one on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart and crossed over to pop radio, peaking at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100. Today, it is regarded as a freestyle classic. The trio was best known for this single, as well as the platinum wigs that were initially a part of the group's image. The single did so well that the group was signed to do a full-length album. The album was released in 1987 on Atlantic Records. Although subsequent releases "Full Circle," "Perfect Lover," and "Signed in Your Book of Love" received club play and led to appearances on such programs as Showtime at the Apollo, the songs received little airplay on American radio.
In 1989, Company B released its follow-up album Gotta Dance, sporting a revamped image: gone were the platinum wigs. Also seemingly gone were the Latin-flavored rhythms of the previous album. Singles culled from the album included the house-influenced "You Stole My Heart," "Gotta Dance," and a cover of the Andrews Sisters song "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" (the song that served as inspiration of the group's name). Despite music videos for "You Stole My Heart" and "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," the group did not attain the same success as they did with their debut effort. A third album recycled a few songs from the first album, including the track "Jam on Me," which included additional lyrics. n 2006, Company B regrouped, with original lead vocalist Charlotte McKinnon and original member Susan (Gonzalez) Johnson, joined by newest member Rachel Leslie. They had been performing extensively over the past few years and released new material.
In 2014, original member Susan (Johnson) Gonzalez purchased the Trademark, Company B and is registered with the USPTO. In 2016 Susan (Johnson) Gonzalez hired Gail Smith Hoyer to manage the group. Gail assisted Susan in branding the name, hire new member Siddy Betancourt, update costumes, choreography, and music. In 2017 they did a remake of "Cruel Summer" by Bananarama. Gail took advantage of Social media and came up with the idea of an online show "In the Kitchen" with Company B and together with Susan they put it into action. Later that year Company B parted ways with Gail and hired new manager Roy Bermingham (Roy B). In 2019 present members include original member Susan (Johnson) Gonzalez, Dalia Chirinos, and Siddy Benancourt.

Desiree Heslop, best known as Princess, is a British singer who found chart success in the mid-1980s. In the early 1980s, she worked with the group Osibisa. She is best known for her hit single "Say I'm Your Number One" which made the UK Top Ten in 1985. Before going solo, she was a backing vocalist for the band Osibisa in the early 1980s. Her debut solo album Princess (1986) was composed and produced by Stock Aitken Waterman which contained the hit single "Say I'm Your Number One". The album spawned five charting singles, and was certified silver in the UK. Heslop signed with Polydor and recorded her second album, All for Love (1987) in the United States, but neither the album nor its three singles had much success.[1] In 1989, she released the stand-alone single "Lover Don't Go", which failed to chart. Her third album, Say It, which was slated for release in 1990, was never issued as Princess retired from the music scene and moved to the US. She later returned to being a backing singer, appearing on the Vanilla Ice album "To The Extreme". From 1991 to 2003 she lived in the US, before returning to England. That same year she formed her own music label with her brother Donovan, OnDa Ground Music Label, which has released all her music since, and released her first single in 14 years, "Ride", with rap ensemble EEDB. A music video was also filmed which referenced her retirement. She appeared in ITV's 2005 production Hit Me, Baby, One More Time, singing Kylie Minogue's Slow. In April 2014, she released her third album, The Emergence, the first in 27 years. It is the first in a trilogy of albums, the other ones titled The Passion and The One.

Benny Mardones - Into The Night - HQ/HD
She's just 16 years old
Leave her alone, they say
Separated by fools
Who don't know what love is yet
But I want you to know
If I could fly, I'd pick you up
I'd take you into the night
And show you a love
Like you've never seen, ever seen
It's like having a dream
Where nobody has a heart
It's like having it all
And watching it fall apart
And I would wait 'til the end of time for you
And do it again, it's true
I can't measure my love
There's nothing to compare it to
But I want you to know
If I could fly, I'd pick you up
I'd take you into the night
And show you a love
Oh, if I could fly, I'd pick you up
I'd take you into the night
And show you a love
Like you've never seen, ever seen
Yeah, ooh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
If I could fly, I'd pick you up
I'd take you into the night
And show you a love
Oh, if I could fly, I'd pick you up
And take you into the night
If I could fly
I'd pick you up
And into the night

Ruben Armand "Benny" Mardones (November 9, 1946 – June 29, 2020) was an American pop singer and songwriter noted for his hit single "Into the Night" which hit the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart twice, in 1980 (#11) and again in 1989 (#20). Benny Mardones was born Ruben Armand Mardones on November 9th, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio. His father, Ruben Sr., who was originally from Santiago, Chile, left the family when Benny was an infant and returned to Chile. Mardones had a sister, two half-brothers, and two half-sisters who live in Chile.
Mardones grew up in Savage, Maryland, and graduated from Howard High School in Ellicott City, Maryland in 1964. He joined the U.S. Navy after high school and served in the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he moved to New York City to pursue his singing and songwriting career, and composed several songs with writing partner Alan Miles. Mardones began his career as a songwriter, writing songs for people like Brenda Lee and Chubby Checker. He demoed the songs he wrote, and Tommy Mottola suggested that he record his own songs. From that point he wrote and recorded over 100 songs. Mardones' band was the Hurricanes.
Howard High School in Ellicott City, Maryland
Mardones co-wrote the 1980 soft rock hit "Into the Night" with Robert Tepper. The track was featured on his second album Never Run, Never Hide, and peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went platinum. Its success catapulted Mardones into the limelight, but he spiraled into substance abuse that resulted in his being dropped by his label Polydor Records. Though he eventually overcame his addiction, Mardones' career produced no other hits. In a TV interview on KTLA 5 "a while" before his death, Benny recalled how the song was inspired by a conversation between him and co-author Robert Tepper, after seeing a 16 year old neighbour take Benny's dog for a walk. In the real life scene, there was no romantic link. "Into the Night" charted a second time in 1989 when Phoenix, Arizona radio station KZZP ran a segment titled "Where Are They Now?", and Scott Shannon, then-program director for Pirate Radio in Los Angeles, added "Into the Night" to its playlist. Other stations across the country followed suit and "Into the Night" was once again a hit, peaking at #20 on the Billboard Hot 100. Curb Records signed Mardones and he recorded "Into the Night '89." The track appeared on his self-titled release that year.

Thinkin' back in time
When love was only in the mind
I realize
Ain't no second chance
You got to hold on to romance
Don't let it slide
There's a special kind of magic in the air
When you find another heart that needs to share
Baby, come to me
Let me put my arms around you
This was meant to be
And I'm oh-so glad I found you
Need you everyday
Got to have your love around me
Baby, always stay
'Cause I can't go back to living without you
Spendin' every dime
To keep you talkin' on the line
That's how it was
And all those walks together
Out in any kind of weather
Just because
There's a brand new way of looking at your life
When you know that love is standing by your side
Baby, come to me
Let me put my arms around you
This was meant to be
And I'm oh-so glad I found you
Need you everyday
Got to have your love around me
Baby, always stay
'Cause I can't go back to living without you
The night can be cold
There's a chill to every evening when you're all alone
Don't talk anymore
'Cause you know that I'll be here to keep you warm
Baby, come to me
Let me put my arms around you
This was meant to be
And I'm oh-so glad I found you
Need you everyday
Got to have your love around me
Baby, always stay
Come to me

Patti Austin (born August 10th, 1950) is an American R&B, pop, and jazz singer and songwriter. Austin was born in Harlem, New York, to Gordon Austin, a jazz trombonist. She was raised in Bay Shore, New York on Long Island. Quincy Jones and Dinah Washington have referred to themselves as her godparents. When Austin was four years old, she performed at the Apollo Theater. As a teenager she recorded commercial jingles and worked as a session singer in soul and R&B. She had an R&B hit in 1969 with "Family Tree". She sang backing vocals on Paul Simon's 1975 number-one hit "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover". The jazz label CTI released her debut album, End of a Rainbow, in 1976. She sang "The Closer I Get to You" for Tom Browne's album Browne Sugar, a duet with Michael Jackson for his album "Off the Wall", and a duet with George Benson on "Moody's Mood for Love". After singing on Quincy Jones's album "The Dude", she signed a contract with his record label, Qwest, which released Every Home Should Have One with "Baby, Come to Me", a duet with James Ingram that became a No. 1 hit on the Billboard magazine pop chart. A second duet with Ingram, "How Do You Keep the Music Playing", appeared on soundtrack to the movie Best Friends (1982). GRP released her album Love Is Gonna Getcha, which contained the singles "Good in Love" and "Through the Test of Time".
Austin was booked for United Flight 93 on September 11th, 2001, but because her mother suffered a stroke days before, she cancelled her ticket and flew at a different time. During a 2007 interview, Austin spoke of reluctantly attending as a teenager one of Judy Garland's last concerts and how the experience helped focus her career. "She ripped my heart out. I wanted to interpret a lyric like that, to present who I was at the moment through the lyric." On June 25, 2019, The New York Times Magazine listed Patti Austin among hundreds of artists whose material was destroyed in the 2008 Universal fire.
Grammy Award, Best Jazz Vocal Album, Avant Gershwin, 2008
Honorary doctorate, Berklee College of Music.
"Baby, Come to Me", a love ballad from Patti Austin's 1981 album, Every Home Should Have One, was her duet with James Ingram. It was written by Rod Temperton (formerly of Heatwave). The song was released as a single in April 1982, peaking at #73 on the Billboard Hot 100. Several months later, American soap opera "General Hospital" began to feature the song heavily as the love theme for character Luke Spencer. It was re-released in October and reached No. 1 on the chart in February 1983.
Judy Garland
The song was performed by Patti Austin and James Ingram, with Michael McDonald contributing background vocals. Produced by Quincy Jones, the song appears on Austin's 1981 album, Every Home Should Have One. When first released as a single, it charted on the US Billboard Hot 100 for just four weeks, peaking at number 73 on May 8th, 1982. Later that year, it gained new exposure as the romantic theme song for Luke Spencer, a leading character on the ABC soap opera General Hospital. ABC received so many inquiries about the song that Warner Bros. decided to re-release "Baby, Come to Me" as a single. On October 16th, 1982, the song re-entered the Billboard Hot 100. It reached No. 1 on February 19th, 1983, where it stayed for two weeks, and spent seven months on the Hot 100. It also hit #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart in early 1983 and reached No. 11 in the UK in March 1983.
Luke Spencer is a fictional character in the American television soap opera General Hospital, played by Anthony Geary from 1978 until his departure in July 2015. Geary holds the record for most Daytime Emmy wins for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his work as Luke. He was the show's fifth most tenured character after Monica Quartermaine, Laura Spencer, Scott Baldwin, and Bobbie Spencer. Luke has easily been one of the most popular characters in daytime soap operas. The character was famously paired with Laura Spencer (named Laura Webber when he met her), starting soon after Luke Spencer joined the show. The pairing, termed "Luke and Laura" by fans, was extremely popular with viewers, and led to the creation of the "supercouple" concept, which many other soap operas attempted to emulate. The pairing culminated with the couple's wedding, which took place on the episodes aired on November 16–17, 1981; the November 17 episode was watched by 30 million people, and remains the highest-watched hour in soap opera history.

Born on a hungry street
Children of darkness grew up on the beat
Anything in our way
We'll just move away
I've got the heart to win
You've got the eyes that say that I can
We're gonna turn this town upside down tonight
They can't stop us now
Body rock
Get your body in the music
Body rock comes from deep inside me
Body rock
Let your body talk to me tonight
We've come from underground Oh
Stickin' together
Gonna turn the world around
Runnin' through the neon night with a dream inside
This is like something new
Heartbeat to heartbeat comin' straight at you
We've got the moment now
Once we're on the move
They can't hold us now
Body rock
Get your body in the music
Body rock comes from deep inside me
Body rock
Let your body talk to me tonight
Body rock means you do it like you feel it
Body shock turns the beat electric
Body rock - let your body talk to me tonight
Body rock
Get your body in the music
Body rock comes from deep inside me
Body rock
Let your body talk to me
To me
To me
To me
To me
Body rock means you do it like you feel it
Body shock turns the beat electric
Body rock - let your body talk to me tonight
Body rock oh oh oh oooh

Maria Vidal (born August 1st, 1960 Miami Florida) is an American singer, who had one minor hit single with the song, "Body Rock" (#48 on the Hot 100) (the theme song to the film Body Rock) in 1984; it also reached #8 on the US dance charts, and #11 in the UK. Vidal was originally a member of the band, Desmond Child & Rouge, but went solo with a self-titled debut album recorded in 1987. The album included the single "Do Me Right" written by ex-bandmate Desmond Child. Vidal also contributed backup vocals to the The Smithereens' 1984 single "A Girl Like You". She also appeared in the 1985 Jim Carrey film, Once Bitten, as a member of a high school band and contributed two songs to the soundtrack. She wrote the 1989 Belinda Carlisle' hit ""Summer Rain"". Vidal is currently married to the successful music producer/songwriter Rick Nowels.
Vidal was born to parents of Hispanic heritage. Sometime later, she met Desmond Child and the two began writing songs and started a music career. Despite these, she still worked at a diner for extra income. Due to her slight physical resemblance to actress and photographer Gina Lollobrigida, her co-workers, as well as the diner's owner and manager, nicknamed her as Gina. This will later be one critical element that inspired Child and members of the rock band Bon Jovi write the song "Livin' on a Prayer".
Vidal was a founding member of the New York City-based band, Desmond Child & Rouge. They released two well-received albums in 1979 and 1980 for Capitol Records. They toured the country and were the musical guests on Saturday Night Live. Their iconic hit "Our Love is Insane" was their own particular blend of rock and disco. The band is known for their inclusion on the soundtrack to The Warriors in 1979, with the song "Last of an Ancient Breed".
Image Above dated August 2nd 1979 - Gilda Radner One Woman show Live from New York. (Winter Garden Theatre).
Vidal, as a member of Rouge along with Diana Grasselli and Myriam Valle, was asked by Paul Schaffer (the band's keyboardist), to sing on a live comedy album that he was the musical director on for Gilda Radner. While making the album, Radner and producer Lorne Michaels, decided instead to turn it into a Broadway show: Gilda Radner – Live From New York opened at the Winter Garden Theater in the summer of 1979. Rouge performed as musicians as well as a variety of characters on stage. They toured Boston and Chicago, where the performances were made into the film Gilda Live directed by Mike Nichols.
When the band parted ways, her first solo endeavor was an album with EMI, where she worked with producer John "Jellybean" Benitez. While working on the album, she was asked to sing the theme song for the 1984 film Body Rock, produced by Phil Ramone. It became an international hit, peaking at number #26 in Australia. Vidal toured around the world promoting it. She appeared in the 1985 horror comedy film Once Bitten as a member of a high school band, and contributed two songs to the Once Bitten soundtrack. Jimmy lovine then signed Vidal as a solo artist to A&M Records after hearing her demo of "Do Me Right", which had been written and produced for her by Desmond. It became the first single off her 1987 eponymous debut solo album and was very popular internationally, especially in South America. The music video was directed by David Fincher.
In 1991, she sang a duet with Desmond Child on the Burt Bacharach/Desmond Child penned power ballad, "Obsession." At the time, Vidal was making her third solo album with British-owned Charisma Records, but the album was never released. Vidal contributed backup vocals to Kiss' Paul Stanley's solo album, Stevie Nicks' single "I Can't Wait" as well as a few other tracks from Nicks' solo album "Rock A Little", and was a featured vocalist for The Smithereens' single "A Girl Like You". She appears on many of Belinda Carlisle's solo albums, including the 1989 album "Runaway Horses". Other highlights include vocals for artists such as: Ellen Foley, Aerosmith, Seal, Alice Cooper, Celine Dion, Toto, Bette Midler, Real McCoy and Cher. Maria also appears on albums from Cat Stevens, and most recently, Lana Del Rey. As a songwriter, Vidal wrote the hit single "Summer Rain" for Belinda Carlisle, which was covered by Slinkee Mix, as well as the title song to Carlisle's album "A Woman and a Man". The song "Angel"; in which she co-wrote (from her 1987 solo album) was also recorded by Expose on their 1992 self titled album. Vidal has written songs with Desmond Child, Billy Steinberg, and Rick Nowels, including Ace of Base single "Every Time It Rains" and Belinda Carlisle's "California". As a studio vocal arranger and producer, Vidal has worked with a myriad of artists. Vidal's credits include Carrie Underwood and the other finalist on American Idol season 4. In May 2009, Vidal announced the release of her album Living in Radical Radiance. The album can be downloaded on her website or ordered through the website shop.

Mental As Anything - Live It Up (Ext. Vers.)
How can you see looking through those tears
Don't you know you're worth your weight in gold
I can't believe that you're alone in here
Let me warm your hands against the cold
A close encounter with a hard hearted man
Who never gave half of what he got
Has made you wish that you'd never been born
That's a shame 'cause you got the lot
Hey, yeah you, with the sad face
Come up to my place and live it up
You, beside the dance floor
What do you cry for, let's live it up
If you smiled, the walls'd fall down
On all the people in this pickup joint
But if you laughed, you'd level this town
Hey lonely girl, that's just the point
Hey, yeah you, with the sad face
Come up to my place and live it up
You, beside the dance floor
What do you cry for, let's live it up
Just answer me the question why
You stand alone, by the phone, in the corner, and cry
Hey baby...
How can you see looking through those tears
Don't you know you're worth your weight in gold
I can't believe that you're alone in here
Let me warm your hands against the cold
If you smiled. the walls fall down
On all the people in this pickup joint
But if you laughed, you'd level this town
Hey lonely girl, that's just the point
Hey, yeah you, with the sad face
Come up to my place and live it up
You, beside the dance floor
What do you cry for, let's live it up
Let's live it up
Live it up
Mmm live it up
Hey yeah you
With the sad face
Come up to my place
Come up to my place baby
Hey, yeah you, with the sad face
Come up to my place and live it up
You, beside the dance floor
What do you cry for, let's live it up

Mental As Anything are an Australian new wave and pop rock band that formed in Sydney in 1976. Its most popular line-up (which lasted from 1977 to 1999) was Martin Plaza (birth name Martin Murphy) on vocals and guitar, Reg Mombassa (birth name Christopher O'Doherty) on lead guitar and vocals: his brother Peter "Yoga Dog" O'Doherty on bass guitar and vocals: Wayne de Lisle (birth name David Twohill) on drums: and Andrew "Greedy" Smith on vocals, keyboards and harmonica. Their original hit songs were generated by Mombassa, O'Doherty, Plaza and Smith, either individually or collectively; they also hit the Australian charts with covers of songs by Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry.
Their top ten Australian singles are "If You Leave Me, Can I Come Too?" and "Too Many Times" (both from 1981), "Live It Up" (1985) and "Rock and Roll Music" (1988). Internationally, "Too Many Times" made the Canadian top 40 in 1982, and "Live It Up" peaked at No. 3 in the UK, No. 4 in Norway, and No. 6 in Germany, after it featured in the 1986 Australian blockbuster "Crocodile Dundee".
All of the early members are visual artists and have had combined studio displays, some have had solo studio displays with Mombassa's artwork also used as designs by the Mambo clothing company. The majority of the group's record covers, posters and video clips have been designed and created by the band members or their art school contemporaries. On 27th August 2009, Mental As Anything was inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame alongside Kev Carmody, The Dingoes, Little Pattie and John Paul Young. Most of the original group members left during the 2000s, and Andrew "Greedy" Smith -- the only original band member still touring with Mental As Anything -- died on 2 December 2019, aged 63, after a heart attack. Mental As Anything has not been active since that time, nor have they announced any future plans.

Cheri - Murphy's Law 1982 RARE VIDEO!!!!
I hate to tell you
But I got a bit of bad news
I don't love you no more
You see life is like a circle
Everything you do
Comes back to you
Murphy's Law
Sure out to get you
Murphy's Law
Sure out to get you
You know the car
You missed the last payment
The finance company came and
Towed it away, towed it away
And the money that you
Owe to your best friend
You don't owe him no more
Cause the ring that you
Bought me for my birthday
I cashed it in at the store
You know the girl that
You've been fooling around with
She got married today
What happened to
Your brand new hi-fi
Someone took it away

"Murphy's Law," was the name of a number 1 Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Chart single by the Canadian/American female dance music duo Chéri. It reached the top spot in May 1982 and stayed there for three weeks. The single also reached number 5 on the soul chart, reached the UK top twenty (#13), and entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart, where it peaked at number 39. Chéri consisted of American Rosalind Milligan Hunt and Canadian Lise Cullerier.
Friends Hunt and Cullerier began singing together at the suggestion of Hunt's mother, singer Geraldine Hunt. Calling their duo Chéri, in 1982 they recorded a single, "Murphy's Law", which became their only Billboard Hot 100 entry, peaking at #39. The song also hit number-one on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart and is notable for its speed-up vocal chorus ("got it all together, dontcha baby"). The song was written by Geraldine Hunt and Daniel Joseph, and released on Venture Records. Chéri continued to record, following up with another single "Give It to Me Baby", and also that year released an album, Murphy's Law, which included the hit single. Some of Chéri's recordings featured Amy Roslyn instead of Cullerier. In 1983 the band released the album Love Stew through the label 21 Records.

Amy Holland - How Do I Survive
Amy Holland - How Do I Survive
I'm not strong enough
Just to smile and make things easy
I can't put on that brave face anymore
I always took it for granted
That I could take whatever you gave me
I guess you never really know for sure
'Cause there was never a doubt in my mind
How it was meant to be
So who do I turn to darlin', if you should leave
How do I survive if you break my heart
How do I survive if you break my heart
I've got no excuses for being your fool
I never thought that it would be forever
But after so much time together
I've come to depend on you
What else am I supposed to do
'Cause there was never a doubt in mind
It wouldn't be easy
But I never realized how much you mean to me
But there was never a doubt in my mind
How it was meant to be
So who do I turn to darlin', if you should leave

Amy Celeste Boersma (born August 15, 1953), known professionally as Amy Holland, is an American pop rock singer, songwriter, and composer.
Holland's music career spans more than 30 years. She received a Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist in 1981, following her eponymous debut album containing the single "How Do I Survive". Amy Celeste Boersma was born in Palisades, New York, into a musical family. Her mother was country singer Esmereldy and her father was opera singer Harry Boersma. Holland is of Dutch descent and changed her name from Boersma to Holland (after her ancestors' origin country), because she thought it would make a better stage name.
Country singer Esmereldy center.
As a teenager, Holland moved to Los Angeles, California, in hope of making a career as a singer-songwriter. At the age of 15 she auditioned for the Beach Boys' Brother Records, but after the company folded, she signed with Capitol Records instead. Holland's eponymous debut studio album, produced by the Doobie Brothers' formed lead singer Micheal McDonald, was released in 1980 and featured the hit "How Do I Survive", which peaked at No. 22 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her second studio album titled "On Your Every Word" followed in 1983, featuring the single "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" a duet with Chris Christian, which peaked at No. 88 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it also peaked at No. 21 on the Adult Contemporary chart.
That same year she contributed two songs to the soundtrack to the film Scarface. One of the songs Holland recorded for Scarface, "She's on Fire", was also featured in the video game "Grand Theft Auto III". Holland went on to sing backing vocals on McDonald's albums, in addition to singing backing vocals on albums by other artists and bands such as First Call.

In 2008, Holland released her third studio album, "The Journey to Miracle River", on Chonin Records. Produced by her long-time friend Bernie Chiaravalle (singer/guitarist for McDonald since 1988), the album was recorded in Nashville over an 8-year period. Holland co-wrote 10 of the 12 songs with Chiaravalle along with other writers John Goodwin, Jon Vezner, and McDonald. Other songs were also penned by Robben Ford and Chazz Frichtel. This album marked Holland's return to the music industry after several years of hiatus to raise a family and deal with health issues. In 2016, she released her fourth studio album, "Light On My Path", The album features a duet, "Prove That by Me" with Michael McDonald, in addition to background vocals by David Pack (Ambrosia), Joseph Williams (Toto), and David Crosby. Holland has been married to Michael McDonald since 1983. The couple live in Santa Barbera, California, and they have two children, Dylan and Scarlett.
In 1995, Holland was diagnosed with cancer, and after many years of therapy, she is now in good health.

Stevie Nicks captivates Walter Egan.
"Magnet and Steel" is a hit single written and performed by Walter Egan, released in May 1978. It was the first and biggest hit on Egan's second solo LP, Not Shy. It reached number eight on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number nine in Canada. It spent 22 weeks on the American charts. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, members of Fleetwood Mac, sang background vocals along with several others; Buckingham was also one of the song's producers, along with Egan and Richard Dashut. Nicks was also Egan's inspiration for the song. "Magnet and Steel" was featured in Boogie Nights (1997), Overnight Delivery (1998) and Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo (1999). It was also heard in the Season 2 episode "Ohio" of the HBO series Divorce (2018). The singer Matthew Sweet did a version of the song for the "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" album with Lindsey Buckingham on guitar.
Walter Egan (born July 12th, 1948) is an American rock musician, best known for his 1978 gold status hit single "Magnet and Steel". Egan was born in Queens, New York, United States. In 1970, as a sculpture major, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. as one of Georgetown's first art majors. Egan started his career in the arts, concentrating on printmaking and painting, and the music business. As early as 1969, Egan was playing guitar and composing songs with surf-rock group the Malibooz. While an undergraduate, he was a lead guitarist and backup vocalist for the college-formed group Sageworth and Drums, also known as Sageworth. The group evolved from a group of Georgetown University undergraduate students playing weekend mixers and parties to a tight, professional headlining act with a reputation as one of the best and most original bands in the greater Washington, D.C. area. Other members included Peter Barry Chowka, lead vocal and guitar; John Zambetti, guitar and backing vocals; Tom Guidera, bass and backing vocals; and Matthew Sheppard, drums, with Annie McLoone added later as a lead singer.
In late 1971, Sageworth relocated to Boston and spent the next two years performing around the Northeast before finally breaking up, at which point Walter moved to Los Angeles and began his career as a solo artist. In 1977, Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac co-produced Walter Egan's first album, Fundamental Roll, with Stevie Nicks. Egan also wrote "Hearts on Fire", which was covered by Gram Parsons on his album Grevious Angel, and "Hot Summer Nights", which was the first hit for the band Night, and included such session musicians as Nicky Hopkins and Robbie McIntosh. Egan scored minor hits with his original version of "Hot Summer Nights" (#56 Can.), as well as "Only the Lucky" and "Fool Moon Fire". Egan later toured as a member of a latter-day version of Spirit. Egan is listed as co-writer on the Eminem hit "We Made You". The song's producer, Dr Dre, believed he was inspired by the bass line from (and used samples of) Egan's "Hot Summer Nights".

Walter Egan "Hot Summer Nights" LIVE
There was a time, not too far gone
When I was changed by just a song
On the radio, in my car
The pounding electric guitar
Then the time came to make our stand
We started up a four-piece band
And the heat felt like spotlights
In the heart of a hot summer night, yeah
Hot summer nights
Hot summer nights
Return with me to when times were best
We were friends that could pass any test
We shared our hopes, our dreams, and our goals
And the fundamental roll
As we sang in the hot, dark rooms
Happy just to play our tunes
We felt good when we did it right
We felt good on a hot summer night, yeah
Hot summer nights
Hot summer nights, yeah
So it lives, and it always will
Those songs we sung are in us still
Ringing out with all their might
In the heart of a hot summer night, yeah
Hot summer nights
Hot summer nights, yeah

I never knew love like this before
Now I'm lonely never more
Since you came into my life
You are my lovelight, this I know
And I'll never let you go
You my all, you're part of me
Once I was lost and now I'm found
Then you turned my world around
When I need you, I call your name
'Cause I never knew love like this before
Opened my eyes
'Cause I never knew love like this before
What a surprise
'Cause I never knew love like this before
This feeling's so deep inside of me
Such a tender fantasy
You're the one I'm living for
You are my sunlight and my rain
And time could never change
What we share forever more, ooh... hoo...
I never knew love like this before

Stephanie Dorthea Mills (born March 22nd, 1957) is an American singer, songwriter and actress. Mills rose to stardom as "Dorothy" in the original 7 Time Tony Award Winning Broadway run of the musical "The Wiz" from 1974 to 1979. The song "Home" from the show later became a Number 1 U.S. R&B hit for Mills and her signature song. During the 1980s, Mills scored five Number 1 R&B hits, including "Home", "I Have Learned to Respect the Power of Love", "I Feel Good All Over", "(You're Puttin') A Rush on Me" and "Something in the Way (You Make Me Feel)". Mills won a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal performance for her song "Never Knew Love Like This Before" in 1981.
Born Stephanie Dorthea Mills to Joseph and Christine Mills (as well as raised) in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Mills sang gospel music as a child at Brooklyn's Cornerstone Baptist Church. Mills began her professional career at age nine, appearing in the Broadway musical "Maggie Flynn". After winning Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater six weeks straight at age eleven, Mills went on to become the opening act for the Isley Brothers. In 1973, Mills was signed to Paramount records by Michael Barbiero, and her first single "I Knew It Was Love" was released. Mills was later signed to Motown. Her first two albums there failed to produce a hit, and Mills left the label in 1976.
Maggie Flynn was based on an idea by John Flaxman that drew from the historical context of the 1863 New York Draft Riots. Shirley Jones played the title character, an Irish woman who ran an orphanage for the children of African-American refugee slaves. She is married to a man named Phineas (played by Jones’s husband Jack Cassidy), an actor who leaves her to join the circus. Soon, Maggie falls in love with Colonel John Farraday, a gentle man who is much steadier and certainly more faithful to her, but, of course, Phineas returns and gives his best effort to win his wife back. They all become caught up in the Draft Riots and the result is that the orphanage is burned down. The show’s unhappy ending may be what led to its unsuccessful run, but whatever the reason, Maggie Flynn was not the hit that Jones and company were hoping it would be.
The musical featured a score by Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore, and George David Weiss. Peretti was a Borscht Belt musician who was cousins with Creatore (who was the son of bandleader/composer Giuseppe Creatore). The duo were record producers and produced many radio hits such as “Honeycomb”, “Kisses Sweeter Than Wine” and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” While working at RCA, and with their Maggie Flynn collaborator George David Weiss, they co-wrote “Can’t Help Falling in Love” for Elvis Presley. The trio actually departed their jobs at RCA to write Maggie Fynn. Whatever their pedigree for writing and producing great songs, their score for Maggie Flynn proved only occasionally pleasant, and sometimes forgettable. Still, it is worth a listen, particularly for “It’s a Nice Cold Morning”, “Mr. Clown” and the title song.
Maggie Flynn opened at Broadway’s ANTA Playhouse on October 23, 1968. Morton DaCosta, who had directed both the stage and film version of The Music Man, helmed the production. Peretti, Creatore, and Weiss also wrote the musical’s book with some shaping and additions made by DaCosta. Also in the cast was Robert Kaye as Colonel Farraday, and among the moppets portraying the orphans were Irene Cara, Giancarlo Esposito, and Stephanie Mills. Critics were unkind to Maggie Flynn, particularly disturbed by its dark storyline and its heavy-handed parallels to the Vietnam War situation which was on every American’s minds. Some also mentioned that it had obvious similarities to The Sound of Music, minus the hopeful ending. One critic went so far as to say that “Maggie Flynnis the best Broadway musical since Her First Roman”, a critically lambasted musical that had opened three-days before Maggie Flynn. Jack Cassidy did receive a Tony Award nomination for his work in Maggie Flynn, but the show had closed long before the Tony nominations were announced. Maggie Flynn shuttered after 82 performances.
Mills's career took a rise when she portrayed Dorothy in the 7 Time Tony Award Winning Broadway musical "The Wiz", an African-American adaption of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz". Her song "Home" from the show would become her signature tune for years, and would be covered later by Diana Ross for the movie adaptation three years later. Commercial success in the music industry remained elusive until 1979, when she signed to the 20th Century Fox Records label. There, Mills found her niche in mainly disco music, recording songs such as "Put Your Body In It", "You Can Get Over", and "What Cha Gonna Do With My Lovin". The resulting album, "What Cha' Gonna Do with My Lovin", was Mills's first gold record and the first major hit for the James Mtume-Reggie Lucas production team. She quickly followed the success with 1980's Sweet Sensation, which featured Mills's hit "Never Knew Love Like This Before". The single became a #12 R&B and #6 Pop hit in 1980, as well as reaching #4 in the UK Singles Chart. 1981's Stephanie featured a top hit for her and Teddy Pendergrass entitled "Two Hearts".

Her 1983 album, Merciless, featured her hit cover of Prince's "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore?", as well as the #3 dance chart hit "Pilot Error", which was her first dance hit in the U.S. In 1984, Mills had her third UK hit with "The Medicine Song" (#29), which also reached #1 on the U.S. dance chart and #8 on the R&B chart. On May 24, 1984, Mills returned to theater to star in a short-lived touring revival of The Wiz. The production closed on June 3, after 13 performances and 7 previews. In 1985, Mills's recording of "Bit by Bit (Theme from Fletch)" was featured in the Chevy Chase film, Fletch, and reached #52 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart, #78 on The Billboard Hot 100 and #15 on the Dance Chart.

Moving in, making my connection
Something's up, you can feel it in the air
Private eyes, never know who's watching
Playing cool, you haven't got a prayer
Have you heard the news making all the headlines
Zooming via satellite?
Have you heard the news coming through the grapevine
Fletch is working overtime
Bit by bit, one way or another
Bit by bit, running undercover
Tonight can't lose, making all the headlines
Bit by bit, gettin' to the bottom
Bit by bit, nothing's gonna stop us tonight
Diggin' in, gonna break by mornin'
Comin' out, you can read it in the Times
Have you heard the news making all the headlines
Zooming via satellite?
Have you heard the news coming through the grapevine
Fletch is working overtime
Bit by bit, one way or another
Bit by bit, running undercover
Tonight can't lose, making all the headlines
Bit by bit, gettin' to the bottom
Bit by bit, nothing's gonna stop us tonight
Tonight
Have you heard the news making all the headlines
Zooming via satellite?
Have you heard the news coming through the grapevine
Fletch is running outta time
Bit by bit, one way or another
Bit by bit, running undercover
Tonight can't lose, making all the headlines
Bit by bit, gettin' to the bottom
Bit by bit, nothing's gonna stop us tonight
Bit by bit, one way or another
Bit by bit, running undercover
Tonight can't lose, making all the headlines
Bit by bit, gettin' to the bottom
Bit by bit, nothing's gonna stop us tonight

Success for Mills had peaked until 1986, when her version of the Angela Winbrush-penned "I Have Learned To Respect The Power Of Love", hit #1 on the R&B singles chart. Mills truly returned, however, with her next release, If I Were Your Woman in 1987 under MCA Records, which she was now signed. The hits from the album include the title track, originally a hit for Gladys Knight & the Pips in 1971, a three-week #1 R&B hit, "I Feel Good All Over", and "You're Puttin' a Rush on Me", to name a few of the songs released. The album reached platinum status. That same year, she appeared in the NBC TV special, Motown: Merry Christmas along with other musical artists and actors, performing the song, "Christmas Everyday", which was written by actor/comedian Redd Foxx. Mills's success continued with 1989's Home album. The hits from that album include "The Comfort of a Man", the title track, a cover of her old standard from The Wiz and another song penned by Winbush titled "Something in the Way You Make Me Feel". It became another platinum record for Mills.
Mills would record one more album (1992's Something Real) and a Christmas album before being released from her contract with MCA in 1992. In 1993, she once again starred in the role of Dorothy in "The Wiz". This revival was also short lived, closing after 28 performances. Mills released a live gospel recording in 1995 on GospoCentric Records entitled Personal Inspirations. The set was produced by Donald Lawrence and featured a spiritualized retooling of her hit "I Have Learned To Respect The Power Of Love". Thereafter, Mills took a break from recording to care for her son. On June 25, 2019, The New York Times Magazine listed Stephanie Mills among hundreds of artists whose material was reportedly destroyed in the 2008 Universal fire. Mills had a brief relationship with fellow singer Michael Jackson.

La Flavour - Only The Lonely (Have a Reason To Be Sad) (from vinyl 45) (1980)
When you're feeling low
Things have got you down
Just remember I'll always be around
So if you're feeling lost
Tell me what to do
'Cause nothing's as important To me as you
Only the lonely have a reason to be sad
A reason to be acting like it's too bad
One day you might wake up and find this is your fate
You kept them all away and now it's too late
You treat them like a dream
It might not all come true
But no one else could love you
The way I do Love is much too shy It needs the test of time
Let somebody love you
Don't pass it by
Only the lonely have a reason to be sad
A reason to be acting like it's too bad
One day you might wake up and find this is your fate
You kept them all away and now it's too late
Love's desire Kept on pushing us Helped us get through the night
Now we're tired Still we're hangin' on Have we run out of time
Only the lonely have a reason to be sad
A reason to be acting like it's too bad
One day you might wake up and find this is your fate
You kept them all away and now it's too late
Only the lonely have a reason to be sad
A reason to be acting like it's too bad
One day you might wake up and find this is your fate
You kept them all away and now it's too late

Massillon, Stark County, Ohio, United States
LaFlavour began humbly in Massillon, Ohio in 1967. Twin brothers Pete and Steve Nervo (guitar and drums) joined with schoolmates Craig DeBock (guitar and sax) and Gino Milchak (bass guitar) to form the core of what would actually become several bands. Instead of following the path set by the British Invasion, the boys began playing soul tunes and early Motown, eventually getting gigs at local dances and sockhops. This early version of the band first called themselves "The Noblemen", then "The Blues Soul".
By the mid-1970s, the boys had progressed into one of the hottest dance bands in the area, and eventually began traveling as the show band "Ragweed". Eventually, they came to the attention of top entertainment booking agent John Sansone from Buffalo, NY, who took over the booking for the band and decided to re-name them "Flavour". The boys became "LaFlavour" with the release of the album "Mandolay" in 1980, which was mostly written and produced by Mark Avsec (of Donnie Iris and Wild Cherry fame). Two singles from the album made the Billboard charts, with Mandolay reaching #7. With a certified success under their belts, La Flavour was signed to MCA records, who thought it wise to separate their "show" image from their "recording" image.
MCA changed the band's name to "Fair Warning", and the boys and Mark Avsec recorded a second album, this time of catchy pop/rock tunes. "Fair Warning" included a sure-fire hit single written by Avsec titled "She Don't Know Me". However, an upcoming band from Jersey called Bon Jovi were recording their first album at this time, and the song was selected for them. This move more or less ruined the chances of the song being pushed as a single for Fair Warning, and since the success of "Mandolay" had come on the heels of the disco/dance craze, Fair Warning was not as well received, and MCA eventually shelved the album and the project.
Meanwhile, the show group LaFlavour was taking the country by storm in the big showrooms - the nightclubs and hotels across the country using live entertainment to do big business in the '80s. Since dance music was essential to the atmosphere in these rooms, La Flavour proved to be the perfect act to insure a full house. Since they were now internationally famous for their hit Mandolay, having LaFlavour on the bill was even a bigger draw. Plus, by this time the boys had developed to perfection a novelty in their act which proved to be their crowning jewel: the comedy-oriented floor shows featuring two simple muppet-style puppets, Franklin and Nick.
Franklin and Nick were actually two store-bought puppets operated by Pete Nervo. Gino became the voice of Franklin, and perched himself on Craig's left shoulder. With DeBock serving as the host/straight man, Franklin began each puppet show cracking funny lines and telling jokes while Craig led him through a multitude of subjects. Eventually, they would summon Franklin's brother Nick (voiced by Pete), who would grumble as he appeared on Craig's right shoulder - always slightly intoxicated and grumpy. The puppets provided the boys with the vehicle to say almost anything on stage, and audiences roared with laughter - since the material was being delivered by two puppets rather than human beings. Of all the great music LaFlavour performed over the years, and of all their different levels of success, they are probably best remembered for all the floor shows featuring Franklin and Nick.
Today, the "infamous" LaFlavour puppets are enjoying their retirement hanging prominently on the wall of a band member's family home, but the memories of all the fabulous comedy routines are still cherished by LaFlavour fans.
As LaFlavour entered the 1990's, the showrooms were beginning to fade. With the arrival of electronic multi-media, and entertainment outlets such as MTV and VH-1, Las Vegas-style shows were not impressing people the same any more. Also, the comedy material that was the cornerstone of the band's puppet shows began to collide with the country's changing political climate. While most didn't find it offensive hearing cagey comedy delivered by two cute puppets in the '80s, the 1990's brought on a whole different attitude toward "political correctness". LaFlavour needed a new direction to survive.
The 90's saw LaFlavour returning to a high-energy dance format, where they once again found success, as well as an audience from a new generation eager to experience "retro" dance music from the 70's & 80's, an era they missed but craved with a passion. With LaFlavour, they found the "genuine article." Here was a band who had actually been there - with a Top-10 disco hit to their credit, no less!
Although the "new" club audiences had lost interest in "show" bands and became obsessed with packed dance floors, there emerged an audience outside the club scene still wanting to be entertained. At the dawn of the New Millennium, LaFlavour suddenly found themselves in demand to deliver concert performances, particularly during the summer months. Thanks to energetic local concert promoters like Bill Curtain and Walt English, "the boys" began filling up their summer months with appearances at Community Concert Series events, headlining to thousands of fans of all ages who weren't necessarily "regulars" at their club dates. Performing a wide variety of popular music, LaFlavour became an annual favorite on this exciting new circuit, enabling them once again to show off the range of their entertainment abilities. The Summer Concert Series also gave longtime LaFlavour fans the opportunity to see all four "original" members onstage performing together. While Craig, Pete, and Gino have remained with the band for more than 30 years, original drummer/vocalist Steve Nervo retired in 1996 for health reasons. However, when he's able, Steve makes guest appearances with the band during the Summer Concert Series, most notably performing his remarkable lead vocals on the hit song "Mandolay." Along with LaFlavour veterans John Casey (guitar/vocals/keyboards) and Vince Scarpitti (drums/vocals), Craig, Pete, Gino, and Steve are still bringing to audiences the highest quality live entertainment available anywhere, filled with the same incredible music, fun, and antics they've become famous for during a remarkable career spanning nearly 40 years!
