Au Revoir Simone formed in late 2003 when Forster (formerly of Dirty on Purpose) and Hart met on a train ride home to New York from Vermont and decided to form an all-keyboard band. They were soon joined at practices by D'Angelo and a fourth member, Sung Bin Park (keyboard/vocals). In December 2004, Park left the band.

Pee-wee's Big Adventure from 1985

The band's name comes from a line Pee-wee Herman says to a minor character (named Simone) in Tim Burton's 1985 film Pee-wee's Big Adventure. The group's musical inspirations were compared by the band's European label, Moshi Moshi Records, to "a dutifully mined musical thrift store"; these diverse influences include Modest Mouse, Stereolab, the Mountain Goats, Louis Prima, Pavement, the Beach Boys, Björk, Broadcast, Belle & Sebastian, David Bowie, Bee Gees and Billie Holiday.

"Sad Song" was used in the 2007 German blockbuster movie Rabbit Without Ears and later on the soundtrack of the 2011 movie From Prada to Nada.

Au Revoir Simone was among the bands performing at the Roadhouse in the 2017 revival of David Lynch's Twin Peaks, they played "Lark" in the fourth episode and "A Violent Yet Flammable World" in the ninth, both from their 2007 album The Bird of Music.

Kites With Lights began in 2005 when two self-produced EPs received radio play in the United States, United Kingdom and Sweden. In 2007 the single "It's On" was released on Swedish label Electric Fantastic Sound. In 2009 "The Weight of Your Heart" and "I Wish Every Other Day Was Christmas" were released on the Tampa-based record label 24 Hour Service Station. This led to Cordy contributing a remix of the song "A Force of Nature" by label mate Pocket and featuring Mark Burgess of the Chameleons U.K. This single was part of a series including Steve Kilbey of The Church, Tanya Donelly and Robyn Hitchcock. In 2010, Jonah contributed a cover of the New Order song "Dream Attack" to the tribute album Ceremony - A New Order Tribute, endorsed by Peter Hook of New Order, which benefited The Salford Foundation Trust. Cordy also produced a remix of "Ceremony" performed by sister act Yes But No which was included in the double album. In August 2011, his first full-length album, the eight song Cosmonauts was released worldwide, followed by On the Edges in 2014 and The Movies in 2018.

Jonah Cordy, known professionally as Kites With Lights, is an American musician. He is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is based in Athens, Georgia. Since 2005, a number of EPs, singles, and remixes have been released. His debut studio album Cosmonauts was released in 2011 on 24 Hour Service Station.

Donkeyboy were signed to Warner Music after an employee came across their music on MySpace. Their debut single, "Ambitions" was released on 26 March 2009 and was put into heavy rotation by NRK P3. The song's chorus is built around a bassline similar to those used on Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" and some of Madonna's 1980s songs. The song features guest vocals by Linnea Dale. "Ambitions" debuted on the Norwegian singles chart at number seven on 6th April 2009, and reached the number one spot on 29th June, after 13 weeks on the charts. "Ambitions" remained at the number one spot for 12 consecutive weeks, before being replaced by the band's second single "Sometimes" on September 22nd. This was the first time ever for a Norwegian artist to occupy the top two spots on the singles chart. Guitarist Peter Michelsen described the situation as "completely absurd"

Donkeyboy - Ambitions Lyrics

Now, I can't behave
I feel it in my feet on the streets
But don't you know?
There's something I can feel when I breathe

I told you once
You're breaking into separate parts
But don't you know?
It's something that I can't live without

And if somebody's going to make it
Then this somebody ought to be you
And I keep telling my reflection
Ambitions are already starting to fade

I can't tolerate
The feelings that I feel when I feel
But don't you know?
Some feelings never seem to let go

Like a silverblade
I cut my way out of control
But don't you know?
Some blades will cut you right to the bone

And if somebody's going to make it
Then this somebody ought to be you
And if somebody's going to fake it
Then this somebody, somebody is you
If it's me that was going to take it
Then I know that it wouldn't be straight
And I keep telling my reflection
Ambitions are already starting to fade

I Can't tolerate...
(Can't tolerate)
I Can't tolerate...
(Can't tolerate)

And if somebody's going to make it
Then this somebody ought to be you
And if somebody's going to fake it
Then this somebody, somebody is you
If it's me that was going to take it
Then I know that it wouldn't be straight
And I keep telling my reflection
Ambitions are already starting to fade

And I keep telling my reflection
Ambitions are already starting to fade

Donkeyboy's debut album Caught in a Life  was released on 19 October 2009. It was produced by Simen & Espen at Livingroom Studios in Oslo. Sven Ove Bakke of Dagbladet gave the album four out of six, and described it as "revolving around its already established hits with a combination of self-assured conviction and uneasy duteousness." He concluded that the album was overshadowed by its hit single. The band supported fellow Norwegians A-HA in the UK and Oslo legs of their Foot of the Mountain tour in November 2009, and in 2011 Donkeyboy won a European Border Breakers Award or their international success. Donkeyboy's second album Silver Moon was released on March 2, 2012, and in 2013 they released the single "Triggerfinger" featuring vocals by Kiesza..2009: Three times Spellemannprisen in the categories this year's Hit song, Newcomer and Musical video, for the album Caught in a Life and the tune/video "Ambitions"

Little Dragon

Little Dragon are a Swedish electronic music band from Gothenburg, Sweden, formed in 1996. The band consists of Yukimi Nagano (vocals, percussion), Erik Bodin (drums), Fredrik Wallin (bass) and Håkan Wirenstrand (keyboards).

Yukimi Nagano was in her first year in high school when she met seniors Fredrik Wallin and Erik Bodin. The three of them would meet up after school to jam and play records by De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest and Alice Coltrane. The band's name was inspired by the "Little Dragon" nickname Nagano earned due to the "fuming tantrums" she used to throw while recording in the studio. "It's a little exaggerated, but there is some truth in it", Nagano said. "But we've grown up a bit, and I realised you can't have a fit every day because otherwise you won't be able to stand each other."

Little Dragon have toured throughout Europe and has also made music videos for the songs "Test", "Twice", "Constant Surprises", "After the Rain" and "Fortune". The video for "Twice" was directed by award-winning Swedish filmmaker Johannes Nyholm. The double A-side single "Fortune"/"Blinking Pigs" was released in the UK on 26 January 2009. On the recommendation of his wife, Damon Albarn invited Nagano and her bandmates to feature on Gorillaz's 2010 album Plastic Beach, appearing on the tracks "Empire Ants" and "To Binge". Albarn then asked Little Dragon to join Gorillaz on their Escape to Plastic Beach Tour. In September 2011, former keyboardist Arild Werling rejoined the group on support keys during live performances.

Marsheaux is a Greek synthpop duo formed in Athens in 2003. The group is composed of vocalists, songwriters and keyboardists Marianthi Melitsi and Sophie Sarigiannidou. The name Marsheaux is derived from the first syllable of each band member's name. Both members sing almost exclusively in English. Andy McCluskey of OMD said about this band: "I do have a soft spot for Marsheaux I have to say. They have a certain sort of wispy, melancholic charm".

Marianthi Melitsi and Sophie Sarigiannidou were born in Thessaloniki, Greece. In 2000, they moved to Athens and founded Marsheaux in 2003 to further their appreciation of electronic pop music. In 2015, they explained to a music blog called AZLTRON the origin of the band: "We were at a Depeche Mode party in Athens 12 years ago, and the guys from Undo Records told us that we can only play Depeche Mode themes in our synths. So we decided to form a band and make a track for a compilation they were working on, called Nu Romantics. We did a cover of Gershon Kingsley's "Popcorn", we found a name, and won the bet. We are very glad we won the bet cause if we hadn't, we would have to clean their warehouse and keep it clean for a whole year".

MARSHEAUX - "Now You Are Mine"

Marsheaux came to national prominence in Greece with their debut single, a cover of Gershon Kingsley's "Popcorn". The single received extensive airplay in Greece and mainland Europe. They continued to gain international recognition for their remixes of "Will I Ever" by In Vox featuring Andy Bell of Erasure.

Now signed to Undo Records, Marsheaux released their debut album E-Bay Queen in June 2004. The album played heavily on Marsheaux's stated influences of The Human League, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, New Order, Erasure, Yazoo and Depeche Mode. E-Bay Queen was critically well received internationally. In December 2006, Undo Records released Sophie and Marianthi's follow up album Peekaboo. The album included two covers, "Regret" by New Order and "The Promise" by When in Rome. The site Electronically Yours rated it "Album of the Year 2007". The single "Hanging On" was released in 2007.

As well as recording original material, Marsheaux also remixed existing tracks of artists such as Moby, Depeche Mode, Sakis Rouvas, Gwen Stefani and Hurts. In 2008, Marsheaux recorded a version of the song "She's Leaving" by OMD. They also issued the limited 7" vinyl "Ghost", which included the B-side "Bizarre Love Duo". In 2015, Marsheaux released their fifth studio album A Broken Frame, which is a cover album of Depeche Mode's 1982 LP of the same name.  It has been seen as faithful to the original but with an updated sound, including some darker and slower interpretations of tracks like "The Meaning of Love" and "A Photograph of You" as well as a trip-hop version of "Shouldn’t Have Done That".

Christopher Anton - Send Me An Angel - Official Lyric Video (Real Life Cover)

If a girl walks in and draws her name in my heart

I'll turn and run away

Every day, we've all been led astray

It's hard to be lucky in love

It gets in your eyes

It's making you cry

Don't know what to do

Don't know what to do

You're looking for love

Calling Heaven above

Do you believe in Heaven above?

Do you believe in love?

Don't tell a lie, don't be false or untrue

It all comes back to you

Open fire!

On my burning heart

I've never been lucky in love

My defenses are down

A kiss or a frown

I can't survive on my own

Send me an angel

Send me an angel

Right now, right now

Send me an angel

Send me an angel

Right now, right now

Empty dreams can only disappoint

In a room behind your smile

But don't give up, don't give up

(Give up, give up, give up)

You can be lucky in love

It gets in your eyes

It's making you cry

Don't know what to do

Don't know what to do

You're looking for love

Calling Heaven above

Send me an angel

Send me an angel

Right now, right now

Christopher Anton, alternately styled christopher ANTON, (born July 21st), is an American singer-songwriter. Anton is known for being the vocalist of the synthpop band Information Society, as well as the synth rock band Pseudocipher. In 2010, Anton gained popularity as a solo artist with the release of his cover version of the dance single "Fade to Grey". After the success of "Fade to Grey", Anton released his debut album Destination: X.

Christopher Anton founded the alternative synth-rock band Pseudocipher in 1998. The band initially began by recording a collage of electronic synthpop and rock inspired pieces. This origin inevitably led the band to having two releases, Pseudocipher (self-titled) in 1998, and Fragments of Empathy in 2003. Fragments of Empathy (aka FOE) was produced by the French Brothers in Burbank, California, and was released on Gem Tree Records. On FOE, Anton was joined by Jon Siren (drums) and Natasha Cox (keys) of Mankind Is Obselete. The success of Fragments of Empathy saw the band sharing the stage with acts such as Berlin, Real Life, Daniel Ash (Bauhaus) and Anything Box.

In March 2003, Anton auditioned for and was chosen as lead singer and frontman for Adolfo Valencia's Depeche Mode cover band, 101. Valencia (guitars, keyboards and vocals) and Anton were joined by Oziel Rufio (keyboards and vocals) and by Anton's Pseudocipher bandmate, Siren (drums).

Anything Box

In 2012, Anton announced his newest release Spaceships and Dreamers, an EP jointly produced by Nick James and John von Ahlen of Parralox. It also features Donna Jean on vocals, and a guest appearance by Houston hip hop artist Drastic Vango.

On March 1, 2013, an EP featuring new remixes of the track "In Silence" from Spaceships and Dreamers plus additional B-sides was released.

In 2019, Anton announced that a new album is in the works. The first single, titled "Living on the Edge of Time", was released on June 6, 2019.

Ladyhawke is the stage name of the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Phillipa 'Pip' Brown (born in 13 July 1979 in Masterton, New Zealand). She can play electric, bass and acoustic guitars, synthesizers and drums. Pip tours with a live band, but in studio she plays all the instruments. Influenced by 80s music, her musical style blends new wave, indie rock and electropop. She is best known for the singles "Paris Is Burning" and "My Delirium". Born with Asperger's Syndrome, Pip Brown came from a musical family, with her mother being a singer-guitarist and her stepfather, a jazz drummer. During her childhood, various illnesses and allergies kept her in and out of the hospital. At age 10 she contracted erysipeloid, a disease that is common in seagulls but had not been seen in humans in New Zealand for 20 years. Her allergies to antibiotics, penicillin, and antihistamines greatly complicated treatment efforts and had put her in a coma and she came close to dying.

While attending Chanel College, she played in several grunge bands. After high school, Brown moved from Masterton to Wellington and formed in 2001 the hard rock band Two Lane Blacktop with some friends, playing lead guitar. Brown relocated to Melbourne, Australia after Two Lane Blacktop parted ways in late 2003, when their lead singer and drummer quit the band. In Melbourne she met Nick Littlemore of Pnau (and later Empire of the Sun), formed the duo Teenager and moved together to Sydney. In 2006 Brown decided to leave Teenager to focus on a personal project she had been developing for sometime, a persona she had dubbed "Ladyhawke", inspired by the Richard Donner film from 1985 with the same name.

In 20 September 2008, her debut album Ladyhawke was released on Modular and gained mostly positive reviews. The album peaked at #16 at UK Albums Chart, #16 Australian Albums Chart, #41 at U.S. Billboard Top Heatseekers, #62 at European Top 100 Albums, #1 at New Zealand Albums Chart. Ladyhawke ranked #23 on MusicOMH Best Albums of 2008. She released five singles from the debut album: "Back of the Van"  (1 April 2008, re-released in 18 May 2009; #93 UK), "Paris Is Burning"  (6 July 2008, re-released in 2 March 2009; #47 UK, #52 AUS, #40 NZ), "Dusk Till Dawn" (8 September 2008; #78 UK), "My Delirium"  (8 December 2008; #33 UK, #8 AUS, #9 NZ) and "Magic" (28 September 2009; #31 NZ). In 2008 Pip Brown collaborated with the Australian band Pnau on the song "Embrace".

The Sound Of Arrows - Magic

image001 (4)_1.jpg

The Sound of Arrows

The Sound of Arrows are a Swedish indie pop duo whose danceable, computerized sweetness has roots in synth pop of the '80s, but also much in common with the Swedish indie pop of the 2000's. The project came together in the winter of 2006 when friends Stefan Storm (formerly of Panache) and Oskar Gullstrand set out to make a Christmas song. Finishing the song about six months later (they allegedly weren't very good with computers at that point), Storm and Gullstrand set out to put together more songs. One of those tracks, "Narrow Escape," piqued the attention of Labrador Records, who released the Sound of Arrows' debut EP, Danger!, in the spring of 2008. The band released more singles for Labrador in 2009 ("M.A.G.I.C." and "Into the Clouds") before hopping over to Geffen and releasing the "Nova" single in early 2011. In between times, the duo kept busy recording and also doing remixes for artists like Club 8, Nicole Scherzinger, and Lady Gaga. After releasing another single in the summer of 2011 (a reissue of "M.A.G.I.C."), their first album, Voyage, surfaced in November. It featured production from Richard X  on a number of tracks and was released by the Skies Above label. In 2012, the duo remixed tracks by Alphabeat and Royal Teeth, then went silent. It wasn't until 2017 that they released anything new, the "Beautiful Life" single. The duo soon followed it with their second album, Stay Free, a more '90s dance pop-influenced record that featured guest appearances by Annie and Nikki & the Dove.

I've moved around a bit since I was a kid. When I was twelve, my family moved to Manchester from Arklow, a small town in southern Ireland. My family drifted back to Ireland when I was 15; I stayed in Manchester.

I moved to Sheffield at the age of seventeen thinking I would go to Art College. Then I met Mark Brydon and we did some tracks with me kind of 'chatting' lines on them like "Do You Like My Tight Sweater?", "See How It Fits My Body". Moloko was born. It freaked me out when we were asked to sign a six album deal but Mark being ever the pragmatist pointed out that, in the extremely unlikely event that we actually did get to make six albums, something would have had to go very right.

I have lived in London for a few years now. Of course I toured all six albums, mostly around Europe, though occasionally in further flung places like Australia, the US, much of eastern Europe and Russia. I've been around a bit. I can't imagine making a record and not being totally consumed by the process, even though that might be nice. I don't expect I'll ever be completely satisfied. On this record the tracks certainly went from pillar to post, I worked along side some really great people and lots of them. I was always there, writing in Miami, London or Barcelona, additional production in Sheffield, strings in Philadelphia, mixes in New York, Jersey, Miami, Las Vegas and every studio in London with a Neve mixing desk, then back to Sterling in NYC for mastering.

RARE GROOVES (Influential journey)
Before I began collaborating on 'Overpowered', I took a trip to New York to do a PA. Danny Krivit asked me to come and sing 'Forever More', a Moloko song. It had become (three years after its release) a kind of anthem at his party. Just one Sunday a month, the '718 sessions' has taken over where 'Body and Soul' left off. Like a Northern Soul, Sunday "all-day-er" with Vogue-ing. I sang to the Françoise K version; a stripped down, purely electronic remix, it exposes the architecture of the song and its pure Disco functionality. Happy sad, sad happy. I also sang 'Cannot Contain This', another song from the Moloko album 'Statues'. I wouldn't have dreamt of doing anything from my solo album 'Ruby Blue' which was current but wasn't really PA material. I had a very good time and as if that wasn't enough, on asking Danny for a cheeky mix tape, he hands me a bundle of ten. A couple of hundred songs, some I knew and had danced to, and some I didn't. The songs with the highest play count in my ITunes were, 'Keep On' - D Train, 'Spank' - Jimmy Bo Horn, 'You're The One' - Little Sister, 'Number One' - Patrice Rushen, 'Together Forever' - Exodus, 'No Way Back' - Adonis, and the original Danny Krivit edits of 'You Got Me Running' - Lenny Williams and Diana Ross' 'No One Gets The Prize', a nine-minute opus, which was my number one most played. I also hammered Danny's edit of The Brand New Heavies' 'Stay This Way'.

Other stuff that crept in would be Robert Palmer, Gwen Guthrie, Lisa Stansfield, Freeze, Mantronic, Universal Robot Band, Rene & Angela. There's also a smidgen of Manchester, way back when I first heard acid house and got submerged into scruffy club culture. With 'Voodoo Ray' I crossed over from being a Sonic Youth/Jesus & Mary Chain obsessive to a dancefloor aficionado because Manchester was like that; bands like ACR and the Mondays loved Kraftwerk and Marvin Gaye and 808 State loved The Stooges and Can. I got signed to EMI because I reminded them of Robbie Williams.

SHEFFIELD SEX CITY (Starting the album)
When I began collecting my thoughts together and homing in on the influences that I wanted to feed into 'Overpowered' I felt the need to go back to Sheffield. I talked for a long time with Parrot, an old friend and someone I had always wanted to work with. I told him about all this old disco and house I'd been listening to and he gave me lists of more tracks he thought I should check out. We did wonder about how all this might fit into the current musical landscape, would anybody be listening? With dance music the way it was, who could be sure? Anyway, it seemed too natural not to go that way.

So I went to work with Seiji in West London, Andy Cato in Barcelona, Richard X in Hoxton and then to Miami to work with Jimmy Douglass and the boy Ill Factor, who at twenty-four manipulates the studio gear and computer plug-ins like a kid on a Nintendo; fast and with precision. Recording strings in Philadelphia (a bit of a dream for me) with Larry Gold (a legend) blew my mind. I was sending things back to Sheffield occasionally for perusal and sometimes a little tweak here and there. I also wrote a couple of songs with Parrot and his musical partner Dean Homer. 'Cry Baby' is a disco marathon of a track. Also 'Scarlet Ribbon's, the only really slow tempo song I've written in two years, loosely interpreted in a lover's rock style by my band in London and produced with Dan Carey.

I really lived it there for a while, only going to my bed and the studio. When it came to mixing, both Tom Elmhurst and Jimmy Douglas like to go on well into the morning. Dan Carey would stop at midnight. At the last minute Alex Cupper worked through the night to subtly "housify" the Andy Cato co-written 'You Know Me Better.'

FOOTPRINTS IN THE MORNING SNOW (New perspectives)
I did 95% of my writing on 'Overpowered' there and then, on the spot with my co-writers, most of whom I did not know at all at the before the process began. That was a new thing for me and I learned a lot. Seiji helped me break the back of it, with songs like 'Overpowered' and 'Footprints' we found a link between the music I had been obsessing about and what I could achieve in a, hopefully, modern way. I've made six albums in my career. The way I measure their success or failure varies. Now I believe you can go straight to a web site and access sales figures as Jimmy Douglass was happy to remind me, saying that "in this information age people can't bullshit anymore". Jimmy put the Fear of God into me. Picking me up every morning in Miami to take us to the studio, he would play mainstream black music radio and dissect it, give me a good talking to and generally point out how ridiculously simple it all was. A hard taskmaster, he'd only occasionally let slip a compliment. When we'd completed 'Checking On Me', he smiled and drawled, "you wrote your ass off on that one Ro-sheen".

CAFÉ SOLO (Herbert collaboration)
'Ruby Blue' was a minor miracle to me. In the days after Moloko's Brixton Academy gig, the last date of a year's touring, I went back to Brixton, to work with Mathew Herbert in The Dairy studios. His tiny room was crammed with what looked like, to me, NASA space technology. You could hardly move for old BBC sound equipment, a beautiful 60's French mixing desk that looked like something from 2001 a space odyssey, hand built Russian mikes, all manner of instruments and objects possessing something sonically particular. We did the whole record in that room, writing, recording (vocals, musicians, whole brass sections, bits and pieces, objects I'd bring from home) and we mixed it there.

Mathew's taste in sound is concerned with energy, his technique is straightforward. Using microphones and recording technology to capture something pure, organic, acoustic even. Matt would always put preference on the first take, stop me doing it again if he could. He wanted to get it down and start another song. It was fun and liberating, an antidote to some of Moloko's more overblown experiments. All this excitement didn't leave time for self-doubt. Had there been time, I might have asked myself whom did I think I was, going and making a record with this fella? I had only ever written songs with Mark Brydon and he had been my boyfriend. I had never before tried to make a record without that kind of support. It started with a piece of music made from the sound of scrap books and newspaper articles being ripped up and hit across the microphone, a few months later there was an album. Ruby Blue hasn't sold by the bucket load yet, but I am very proud of it....

DEATH BY CONCEPTUAL FASHION (Visualizing the music)
Scott King is the art director for 'Overpowered'. I have worked with him once before. He was creative director of Sleaze Nation when Elaine Constantine (Photographer) asked me to model in a fashion story she was shooting for them. We shot his idea, like a little movie, it was a narrative about a "small town pub band". I ended up on the cover of the magazine, pictured being shagged by a hairy rocker in the cabin of a parked transit van. My Mother was very proud. I reckoned that something about being a performer was a good place to start and showed him some bits from the Moloko Live DVD of the Brixton Gig. First thing he showed me was footage of David Bowie walking down a London high street in the video for 'DJ'. Scott's idea of me is like a kind of street-diva, ready for my close up in off the wall couture, even when getting my fill of beans and sausage down my local greasy spoon. Or like the Queen of the Tinkers photographed in resplendent garb, going for maximum impact whilst out shopping and/or shoplifting on the Cricklewood Broadway. For the 'Overpowered' single sleeve I was dressed in a Viktor & Rolf frock that comes with its own lighting rig attached to the body on a full back brace. The rig is very heavy scaffolding, like the stuff they use in music venues; the dress is hooked up on the rig so as to become rather like the sail of a big boat (great for shoplifting). It was very windy on the high street and I couldn't move my feet in the clogs, with the bits of wood nailed on, to make them into high heels! A stray gust of wind almost carried me over a couple of times. Luckily a burly Grip was put on hand, just out of shot, to catch me.

MOODY COW (Gearing up)
When shooting a record sleeve (Moloko's second album) up a Swiss mountain in the middle of a storm and going snow blind trying to milk a cow in a suit of armour (me, not the cow) I might wonder what's it all about? But I love the nonsense of it. Life is often mundane, spent waiting at the bus stop of our imaginations, planning what to do when the night bus finally gets you there. I fully admit that I'm a dreamer; I idle away downtime thinking about the future, the next collaboration, the next album and ultimately the performance. Obsessing about every detail of it. All this pre-planning and intentionality is kind of ironic considering I didn't choose this path; it chose me so to speak.

It's funny to me now how all this happened so accidentally...

I met a producer guy in Sheffield and made him smile when I asked if he liked "my tight sweater". I was 18 and full of it. He swept me off my feet, took me to the studio and proceeded to teach me all I needed to know about making records and singing and stuff. Fate, I guess. We both adored Larry Levan's edit of 'Seventh Heaven'. It was love. Still is.

Personal life
On 30 August 2011, Lights became engaged to Beau Bokan, the lead vocalist of blessthefall.

In 2010, Johnson returned to New York City and she worked retail and restaurants again, but this time making music on the side. She started releasing her own songs as free download on her sites zDanz and TheComputerMagic and compiled those songs on various EPs: Hiding From Our Time (2010), Hiding From More of Our Time (2010), Electronic Fences (2011), Get a Job (2011), Spectronic (2011), Orion (2012, released through Kitsune), A Million Years / Another Science (2013), Extra Stuff (2014), Dreams of Better Days (2015).

Johnson has a devoted and avid following in Japan. The music video for "Lonely Like We Are", which presents images from one of her tours in Japan, was dedicated to her Japanese fans and labels. She released 6 albums in Japan with Tugboat Records and P-Vine Records. Many of the Japanese versions include bonus tracks specifically for that territory. Her first Japanese release, Scientific Experience, debuted at #5 on the iTunes Japanese Electronic Music Chart. Her 2015 release Mindstate debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes Japanese Electronic Music Chart.

She picked the moniker Computer Magic, a name derived from a quote by Viv Savage in This Is Spinal Tap:
"quite exciting this computer magic!". Talking about her moniker, Johnson said: "In the beginning I didn't know what to call myself. I was so uncomfortable in my own skin, was so sure no one would believe it was just one person making the music (This was like ten years ago when there weren't as many bedroom pop artists), wanted to incite the idea that it was a band, so I named it Computer Magic. I wanted to detract the attention from myself. The music I thought was great, but I didn't think I was great, so I needed that separation. Sad really when you think about it."

In 2010 at the age of 21, Johnson moved with her mother to Florida. Unsure what she wanted to do career-wise, she applied for many jobs but couldn't get one. In her downtime, she downloaded the DAW Ableton Live and learned on her own how to make music. One of the first songs she completed was "Running", done in a closet on a laptop with a cheap microphone. She reminisced about her first attempts at making music: "I remember showing my mom the music I made and she was like 'How did you do this?' I just thought everyone could write music. I didn’t know anything I did was special. It was kind of hard for me to believe. It was like a lightbulb went off after that. I would just make one song after the next and put it up online. And I realized – geez, maybe this is what I was meant to do all along."

Her third studio album, The Absurdity of Human Existence, was released on March 12, 2021. Danz wrote, produced and recorded the album, Claudius Mittendorfer mixed it and Joe Laporta mastered it. Speaking about the album, Danz said that she went through an existential crisis: she experienced feelings of self-doubt, went through an extreme low, was about to break and contemplated the human existence. All that inspired her to write "songs of sadness, songs about falling in love, songs about death, songs about wanting something more out of life." According to her: "it was diving both the deepest I could go emotionally meanwhile perfecting every sound – listening repeatedly to every second, making sure it was perfect and pushing myself."

Johnson founded the media brand, podcast and site Synth History, besides the Instagram page. She has interviewed Oneohtrix Point Never, James Murphy, Vince Clark, Rick Wakeman, Suzanne Ciani, Pete Townshend, Chromeo, Gary Numan. The first narrative podcast episode was released in August 2020 on musician and composer Wendy Carlos. Danielle Johnson sings, writes, produces, and records her own music, described as "spacy, sci-fi-influenced synth pop" by Allmusic and "as otherworldly cosmic pop" by The FADER. She has maintained success in Japan and has gained a cult following in the United States. Attracting science fiction enthusiasts, she often performs or takes press photos in space suits with backdrops reminiscent of NASA base camps. She considers Paul McCartney, Trent Reznor, David Bowie, and Thom Yorke as the main songwriters she looks up to. Her musical influences also include Broadcast, Giorgio Moroder, Can, Herbie Hancock, and music genres such as New Wave, Italo Disco, and Krautrock. She also lists the science fiction author Philip K. Dick, and the science fiction films Barbarella, Logan's Run and 2001: A Space Odyssey as further influences. She has modeled clothes for Sofia Coppola's Japanese clothing company Milkfed, and in 2017 was in the fall catalog for the skate clothing brand X-Girl, founded by Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon in the 1990s. Her song "Running (Hiding Version)", was used in two separate television commercials for Aria Resort and Casino and Lexus. Johnson has composed numerous songs for commercials in Japan for companies such as Panasonic,  Body Mainte, and two separate commercials for QP Half and QP Sesame Dressing.

Her debut studio album, Davos, was released on October 16, 2015. Johnson wrote all songs of this album, except "All Day" credited to her, Brian Robertson and Brian Hancock III. Most of the production, engineering and mixing has been done by Atomic Heart Studios in New York, NY by Claudius Mittendorfer. The title Davos is a homage to a now-decrepit ski resort where Johnson grew up in upstate New York, where her father worked and still resides, although the ski resort closed when Johnson was 3 years old. 3 music videos were released to promote this album: "Be Fair" (filmed in Tronca Pinnacles), "Hudson", and "Fuzz".
